Route 66 Theatre company has announced the cast and design team for the second show of its ninth season, the Chicago premiere of Halley Feiffer's dark comedy A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE GYNECOLOGIC ONCOLOGY UNIT AT SLOAN-KETTERING MEMORIAL CANCER CENTER OF NEW YORK CITY.

My Father's Daughters is getting a special reading with Route 66 Theatre Company on Tuesday, June 6th. Featuring book by Lara Filip, music and lyrics by Liz Chidester, Lara Filip, Jess Godwin & Diana Lawrence, music direction by Diana Lawrence, an direction by Keely Vasquez, the reading begins at 7:30 p.m. at The Den Theatre (1333 N. Milwaukee Ave).

The House Theatre of Chicago announces the final production in their 15th season, The Great and Terrible Wizard of Oz, adapted from L. Frank Baum's book by The House Theatre Company Member Phillip Klapperich and directed and choreographed by The House Theatre Company Member Tommy Rapley, playing at the Chopin Upstairs Theatre, 1543 W. Division St., March 17 - May 7. Opening/press night is Monday, March 27 at 7 p.m. The performance schedule is Thursdays - Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday matinees at 3 p.m. and Sunday evenings at 7 p.m. Preview tickets (evenings March 17 - March 26, no performance March 25) are $15 and regular run tickets range from $25 - $45. The show is recommended for adults and kids aged 10 and up. Same-day tickets for students and industry professionals are $15 and available for all dates, seats permitting. The Actors Gymnasium has announced the world premiere of Quest, an original circus-theater production adapted and directed by Leslie Buxbaum Danzig, featuring original music by Kevin O'Donnell and loosely based on Leo Tolstoy's short story 'The Three Questions.' Quest, part of Actors Gymnasium's Annual Winter Circus, runs Today, Feb. 11 - Sunday, March 19 at Noyes Cultural Arts Center, 927 Noyes St. Press opening is Sunday, Feb. 12 at 3 p.m. with an opening night party Today Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m.

Route 66 Theatre Company is pleased to announce the appointment Rachel Wendte and Deborah Blumenthal as its new Managing Director and New Play Development Director, respectively. 

The opening number of the newly revised SIDE SHOW invites audiences to 'Come Look at the Freaks.' In doing so, however, the musical really prepares spectators to look upon the circus attractions in the show with empathy rather than alienation and astonishment. With this intimate production from Porchlight Music Theatre led by Artistic Director Michael Weber, the Chicago premiere of the 2014 revision of SIDE SHOW (seen on Broadway last season) brings the humanity of the show's characters to the forefront. While I enjoyed the Broadway revival of SIDE SHOW at the nearly 2,000 seat St. James Theatre, I also felt that it put me at a distance from the action onstage. The show had a pervading eeriness to it. But with Porchlight's production, audiences are able to come close to the conjoined Hilton sisters - the result is highly entertaining, with a strong dash of pathos and emotional resonance.
