The Department of Theater and Dance at UC Santa Barbara has announced another exciting year of performances, this time back in-person. This season includes everything from unique takes on old classics to new and original works in both theater and dance.

The show revolves around Sebastian and his twin sister Viola who share an uncanny physical likeness. After the two are separated in a shipwreck, they each believe the other to be dead. This misunderstanding leads to hilarious schemes and miscommunications, resulting in a show that is sure to delight audiences. 

The Department of Theater and Dance presents a rich and exciting season of innovative performances. Despite the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, the department is committed to providing their community with quality education, theater, and equal access to all of the shows. With over ten productions in the pipeline, there is something for everyone, and for the first time, every single one can be watched for free, right from your couch. 

In the fall quarter of 2020-2021 the school's theatre department is producing more events than in a regular school year, and they will be shared with the community for free.

The Department of Theater and Dance presents a NAKED SHAKES production of Immortal Longings for its 15th anniversary.

For its 15th anniversary, NAKED SHAKES presents Immortal Longings, a new adaptation by Irwin Appel that combines Shakespearea??s Julius Caesar, Antony and Cleopatra and George Bernard Shawa??s Caesar and Cleopatra into one dynamic and exciting play.

Southwest Shakespeare Company has launched the Virtual Classics Live Series, the latest edition of which featured THE MERCHANT OF VENICE. (Showcased for live streaming on May 23rd, the program is available on the Company's Facebook page.) Featuring actors from across the country, including the celebrated Patrick Page, the reading, directed by Irwin Appel, is inspired, informative, and, as usual, provocative ~ a worthwhile opportunity to delve into one of Shakespeare's most controversial plays.

Overall, 'A Winter's Tale' has visual richness, but the text is all over the place, and additional elements like modern pop music and choreographed slow-motion stage crosses pile superflua onto an existing wealth of 'eclectic' narrative components.

Field trip performances of William Shakespeare's Macbeth, produced by Orlando Shakes in partnership with UCF, sold out within minutes of going on sale. In order to reach more students in the community, Orange County Public Schools is providing Orlando Shakes with the opportunity to use Boone High School's new, 852-seat auditorium. Boone students will see Orlando Shakes' production first at a special Halloween-day performance. Three other performance dates are available to other OCPS schools at a cost per student with bus transportation provided by OCPS.
