Drag icon and award-winning singer and comedienne Varla Jean Merman is set to bring her new show Stand By Your Drag to Catalina Jazz Club in Hollywood for one show only on Tuesday, April 23, at 8:30pm, it was announced by Catalina and Chris Isaacson Presents.

This gut-busting show, co-written by Jeffery Roberson, Ricky Graham & Hartford's own Jacques Lamarre, offers a double-dose of fun with two performances Sunday, March 19 at 4pm and 7pm at 233 Pearl Street in downtown Hartford.

International drag chanteuse Varla Jean Merman is a woman on the verge of a nervous breakdown! After the craziest time in memory, the loosest gal in town is at loose ends. What's a distressed diva to do? Tease her hair, steal someone's Ativan, and get on with the show, of course!

Based on the classic 1967 film, it's mightily entertaining with a great message and a strong cast led by Kym Welch.

Varla will be setting up her special 'entertainment clinic' at TheaterWorks at 233 Pearl Street in downtown Hartford.

This week I saw productions of two decades-old musicals, each written by one of theatre's great composer/lyricists, which, in their original productions, ran a combined total of nine performances on Broadway.
