Berkeley Repertory Theatre today announced the cast and creative team for the American premiere of The Great Wave written by Francis Turnly and directed by Mark Wing-Davey.

Playwrights Horizons (Artistic Director Tim Sanford, Managing Director Leslie Marcus) will, from today, November 12, through Thursday, November 15, accept entries for the Live for Five online lottery, giving out $5 tickets to the New York premiere production of Noura, from 9 Parts of Desire playwright and actor Heather Raffo and director Joanna Settle. The Washington Post deemed this "epic-feeling, nearly searing portrait of a woman torn between cultures and family" the "best premiere of the Women's Voices Theater Festival" when it made its world premiere in Washington, D.C. earlier this year. Produced in association with Shakespeare Theatre Company, it will be performed at Playwrights Horizons from November 27 to December 30. Playwrights Horizons created Live for Five in 2007 as part of their Arts Access program to reach out to those who may not be able to afford the cost of a full-price theater ticket. Since its inception, over 3,000 theatergoers have been able to attend the theater thanks to the initiative.

TheatreWorks Silicon Valley kicks off its 2018/19 season with Hold These Truths by Jeanne Sakata, an inspiring true story following Gordon Hirabayashi, a Japanese-American student who fought internment to a relocation camp during World War II. This Northern California premiere celebrates the human spirit as it chronicles Hirabayashi's journey from college in Seattle all the way to the Supreme Court, and eventually to a Congressional Medal of Honor.

Dallas Theater Center will host a curated conversation featuring insights into the world-premiere play Miller, Mississippi on Aug. 21 at the Beckley-Saner Recreation Center, located at 114 W Hobson Ave., Dallas, Texas 75224. In a moderated panel discussion, Diane and Hal Brierley Resident Acting Company members Alex Organ and Liz Mikel will discuss their experiences, and how they have informed their approach to the characters they portray in Miller, Mississippi. Moderated by Amber Sims, this conversation will address advantage and what happens 'when tradition is sacred, and change is slow'. A reception will begin at 6:30 p.m. with food donated by Babe's Chicken Dinner House, followed by the conversation at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

Second Thought Theatre continues its 2017 season of change with the area premiere of Straight White Men by Young Jean Lee. Local director/actor Christie Vela returns to direct for the company after making her acting debut for Second Thought last summer in A Kid Like Jake. Straight White Men begins with previews on Wednesday, April 12 and runs through Saturday, May 6. Second Thought Theatre opens its gripping 2017 season with the area premiere of Grounded by George Brandt. STT Artistic Director Alex Organ returns to directing for the company for the first time since 2014's production of Cock. This year he directs the one-woman show portraying a female fighter pilot navigating the clash between a career in the typically masculine world of modern warfare and the more traditional role of wife and mother. Grounded begins with previews on Wednesday, January 11 and runs through Saturday, February 4. The Pierre and Tana Matisse Foundation has awarded an Arts Education Impact Grant of $750,000 to the Young People's Chorus of New York City for its new initiative: Vocal Resolutions: Shaping Perceptions Through Music.
