BWW Review: THE DRESSER, Richmond Theatre

In the right hands, Ronald Harwood’s Olivier award-nominated tragicomedy The Dresser is poignant, hilarious and also heart-breaking. Terry Johnson’s new touring version captures the undercurrent of deep sorrow of the play in a this rather meta production about a touring theatre company.

BWW Review: THE DRESSER Wraps You in Co-Dependency at Birmingham Festival Theatre

The Dresser unveils the complexity of a co-dependent relationship between a pompous Shakespearian actor, aptly named Sir (Jack Cannon) and his dresser Norman (Judd McCluney). Norman's devotion to Sir is built upon many levels of admiration, even though Sir treats him like a second rate Sancho.

San Diego Theatre Connection Announces THE DRESSER Opening at San Diego's First Community Theatre

Based on the author's own experiences as dresser to Sir Donald Wolfit, this bracing, heartbreaking drama is an elegy to a by-gone era. Backstage at a theatre in the English provinces during World War II, Sir, the last of the great breed of English actor/managers, is in a bad way tonight, as his dresser Norman tries valiantly to prepare him to go on stage as King Lear.

BWW Review: THE DRESSER, Duke of York's Theatre, 13 October 2016

In the theatre it is well known that; no matter what, the show must go on. This sentiment has rarely been portrayed so poignantly as it is in Ronald Harwood's Olivier award-nominated play The Dresser. First performed in 1980, the play returns to the West End in a fabulous revival of the tragic comedy that delves into the psyche of an actor well past his prime.

Provincetown Theater to Present THE DRESSER, 4/6-24

The Provincetown Theater brings the Broadway and West End hit "The Dresser" to its stage April 6 to 24.  "The Dresser", written by Ronald Harwood, chronicles the end times of Great Britain's once-grand theatrical touring companies.  The play, set in 1942, is both touching and hilarious, revealing the shabby egos, ridiculous obsessions, and blind loyalties played out behind the glamour of the stage.
