The Huntington has announced the reopening of The Huntington Theatre, its historic home on Huntington Avenue, following its transformational renovation to restore, renovate, and modernize the almost 100-year-old landmark.

Chairman David Epstein and President Sharon Malt, on behalf of The Huntington’s Board of Trustees and Advisors, announced today the appointment of acclaimed stage director, producer, and community builder Loretta Greco as The Huntington’s next Norma Jean Calderwood Artistic Director.

Huntington Theatre Company board and staff are celebrating breaking their fundraising record at the Spotlight Spectacular gala, Monday, May 6. Held at the Boston Center for the Arts Cyclorama, the gala brought in $1.3 million to support the Huntington's operations for the fiscal year, including its broad range of education and community outreach programs.

Huntington Theatre Company Board Chairman David Epstein, Education Committee Chair Betsy Banks Epstein, and Norma Jean Calderwood Artistic Director Peter DuBois will be honored with the Wimberly Award at the 2019 Spotlight Spectacular on Monday, May 6, 2019 at 6pm at the Cyclorama at the Boston Center for the Arts. The Spotlight Spectacular co-chairs are Cokie and Lee Perry and Linda and Daniel Waintrup.

Another video from the Stages Musical Theatre Festival was just released this week. New Musicals Inc. aired 51 hours of live streamcast footage of musical theatre readings, concerts, creative sessions, as well as interviews with writers and producers, all part of the most recent Stages Musical Theatre Festival. The Festival ran for fifteen years in Chicago before New Musicals Inc. brought it to the West Coast about a decade ago.

The Boston Planning and Development Agency (BPDA) voted this evening to approve the proposed redevelopment of 254-264 Huntington Avenue, which will include the renovation of the Huntington Avenue Theatre and the theatre's support wing as well as a new apartment building next to the theatre. This approval puts in motion a donation by commercial developers QMG Huntington LLC of the historic Huntington Avenue Theatre and its support wing to the Huntington Theatre Company for its ownership in perpetuity.

??????? Commercial developers QMG Huntington LLC filed plans for their Huntington Avenue project with the Boston Planning and Development Agency today, June 26, 2017. The project includes plans for a new high-rise apartment building at 252-258 Huntington Avenue, as well as the preservation and restoration of the historic theatre at 264 Huntington Avenue, the longtime home of the Huntington Theatre Company. QMG Huntington LLC purchased the Huntington Avenue properties in May 2016 and has agreed to give the Huntington exclusive, permanent ownership of the theatre.

The Directors Company  (Michael Parva, Artistic Director; Leah Michalos, Managing Director) will present a reading of Desperados a new play by David Epstein, featuring two-time Tony Award Winner James Naughton (Chicago, City of Angels) and Laila Robins (Lucille Lortel nominee, Frozen.) Joining them will be Clea Alsip and Keira Naughton

The Huntington Theatre Company's longtime home on Huntington Avenue remains secure, and the Huntington will continue to produce world-class theatre there for generations to come. Beginning July 1, 2017, the building known as the Boston University Theatre will become the Huntington Avenue Theatre, controlled on a permanent basis by the Huntington Theatre Company.
