DAVE SOLOMON is a New York-based writer and director. His play, Margaret and Craig, starring Mario Cantone and directed by Tony-nominated director Sheryl Kaller, was seen in workshop at New York Stage and Film and is currently in development for future production. He is currently the associate director of Tootsie the musical and will be directing the premiere production of Jeff Thomson and Jeremy Desmon's musical Pump up the Volume at Pittsburgh Playhouse in 2020. He also directed the critically-acclaimed world premiere of Diana Amsterdam's new play, The Dodgers, at the Hudson Theatre in Los Angeles (starring Corbin Bleu, Talisa Friedman, Jared Gertner, Asher Grodman, Emma Hunton, and Eric Nelsen) and has been developing the theatrical song-cycle You're Gonna Hate This, with composer Michael Holland and Lindsay Mendez; he has directed concert versions of the piece at both Joe's Pub and Feinstein's/54 Below. Solomon wrote and directed the award-winning short film photo op, starring Randy Harrison, Aaron Lazar, Hannah Bos and Lucas Steele, that played over twenty film festivals including Palm Springs International ShortFest and Outfest Los Angeles, and his new short film, Cavan, starring Blair Baker, Lucas Steele and Erin Wilhelmi, will start making the film festival rounds this year. As a writer, he has also had works produced or performed at Ars Nova and Developing Artists, has been a resident of SPACE on Ryder Farm, and wrote a short piece that was performed at the DR2 in New York City and internationally as part of the After Orlando project. He also wrote the book for the original musical Havana, that was directed and choreographed by Tony-Winner Warren Carlyle for Norwegian Cruise Lines. Solomon has also worked extensively as an Associate Director to Joe Mantello, Scott Ellis and Bill Condon, among others - and has worked on twelve Broadway productions including Side Show, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, 9 to 5, Pal Joey, Sunday in the Park with George (2008), The Ritz, Curtains, Laugh Whore and Assassins. He also worked with Scott Ellis on "A Christmas Story Live" for Fox. He assisted Bill Condon on the 2017 live-action film version of Disney's Beauty and the Beast and also worked with Condon on the feature film, Mr. Holmes, starring Ian McKellen and Laura Linney. Other directing credits for stage include Same Time, Next Year with John Bolton and Eve Plumb, various incarnations of Jeff Thomson and Jeremy Desmon's musical Pump Up The Volume and a staged reading of Debra Monk's play, Dick and Lola, for the Roundabout Theatre Company; that starred Ms. Monk alongside Andrea Martin and Brian Kerwin. He was also the director of Marrying Meg, which was one of the eight shows selected by the New York Times as a highlight of that year's New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF). Solomon is a graduate of Vassar College and is represented by Michael Finkle at William Morris Endeavor.
