The Echo Theater Company will present LABFest 2021, a virtual reading festival of three new plays by Brian Otaño, Roger Q. Mason and Christopher Sullivan that were developed in the company’s 2020 Playwright’s LAB.

The World Premiere of Don Nguyen's Hello, From the Children of Planet Earth opens tonight, on March 7 at The Duke on 42nd Street, a New 42nd Street project. Presented by The Playwrights Realm (Katherine Kovner, Founding Artistic Director; Roberta Pereira, Producing Director) and directed by Jade King Carroll, this philosophical, and tender comedy is split between the perspectives of a lesbian couple trying to conceive, and their potential-sperm-donor/aerospace engineer friend as they're stretched to contemplate the unknowns of their future.

In a special show for the festival: Degibri Big Band will host Miri Mesika, Ester Rada and Leena Makhoul in a tribute to the great jazz singers: Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Aretha Franklin and more. March 8, 21:30.

The Playwrights Realm will present HELLO, FROM THE CHILDREN OF PLANET EARTH, a World Premiere from Don Nguyen. The show will run February 24 through March 24 at The Duke on 42nd Street.

STREEPSHOW!, written by Jay Stull, and directed by Andrew Neisler for The Tank's Save & Print series opens at the Connelly Theater (220 East 4th Street, between Avenues A & B). STREEPSHOW! is the true story of 14 characters once played by Meryl Streep, picked to live in a house, and have their lives filmed to find out what happens when people stop being, oh I don't know, direct and start getting, well, breathy. Life in suburban Cincinnati is good for Doc and Delia Coleman on the morning they're about to throw their eldest daughter the perfect wedding they never had, that is until her vagabond exboyfriend arrives on their doorstep and turns their best laid plans into total chaos. The result is a zany, door-slamming comedy about stressed-out parents, less-than-helpful siblings and interruptions galore from the mind of comedian Lewis Black. Will their daughter make it down the aisle or will the day end up a perfect disaster? The Amoralists present the world premiere of UTILITY, written by Emily Schwend and directed by Jay Stull. UTILITY runs now through February 20, 2016 in a limited engagement at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, located at 224 Waverly Place between Perry & West 11th Streets in New York City. Dorset Theatre Festival will stage Katie Forgette's Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Jersey Lily, a delightfully funny and exciting take on the famous detective story that weaves together threads of history and literature including the great Sherlock Holmes himself, his trusted friend Watson, the sinister Moriarty, the glamorous Lillie Langtry, and even Oscar Wilde. The production will be directed by Margarett Perry and will run from July 9th through the 25th. 'There is a reason that Sherlock is such a popular figure in literature as well as on stage and in film,' says Artistic Director Dina Janis. 'These mysteries are engaging throughout and always very satisfying. This piece in particular is so clever and entertaining.' The Case of the Jersey Lily places literature's favorite genius detective right in the middle of a blackmail scheme that connects the famous actress Lillie Langtry, celebrated playwright Oscar Wilde (just finishing work on his new play, The Importance of Being Forthright), criminal mastermind James Moriarty and Queen Victoria herself.
