What did our critic think of GLORIOUS!: THE TRUE STORY OF FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS, THE WORST SINGER IN THE WORLD at Kanata Theatre? The extraordinarily long title is a sly nod to the flamboyant nature of its subject, whose incredible true story forms the basis of the show. Jenkins was a New York socialite who gave a multitude of recitals benefitting the many charities and clubs she spearheaded.

Theatre companies always hope a show will do well, but every so often a show comes that exceeds their expectations, and eventually, they bring the show back. For Noce, known for bringing the best jazz artist to Des Moines, their show is a play ironically called a?oeSouvenira?? which is returning to the end of October. I missed it the first time the show was produced, and after seeing the show this weekend, this a?oeSouvenira?? was certainly worth taking another look at.

It was exactly ten years ago I first saw Stephen Temperley's SOUVENIR at Baltimore Center Stage which starred Tony Award winner, Judy Kaye. I could not imagine seeing a better version of it ever. But, I was wrong. The Rep Stage version is just plain spectacular and the two actors who perform here, Grace Bauer and Alan Naylor are just plain marvelous.

Rep Stage, the professional regional theatre in residence at Howard Community College (HCC), opens its 27th season with Stephen Temperley's a?oeSouvenir: A Fantasia on the Life of Florence Foster Jenkins,a?? directed by Joseph W. Ritsch.

Florence Foster Jenkins - the 20th century performer who shocked with her confidence that she was a fantastic opera singer when she was absolutely not - was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. So, it only makes sense that Totem Pole Playhouse, just over two hours outside of the city would memorialize her with a production of the biographical musical play Souvenir. 

Totem Pole Playhouse, America's summer theatre, located in Caledonia State Park between Gettysburg and Chambersburg, PA has announced the third production in the Playhouse's new summer subscription series, Souvenir by Stephen Temperley. The Playhouse is offering three half-price preview performances Friday, July 12 at 8pm and Saturday, July 13 at 2pm and 8pm. All seats are general admission and priced at $25.00.

Totem Pole Playhouse, America's summer theatre, located in Caledonia State Park between Gettysburg and Chambersburg, PA, has announced a major change in its programming format starting this summer. Beginning May 31st through September 8th, a new 5-show summer subscription series will be offered. The new format will allow Totem Pole to offer a wider variety of offerings beyond the limited productions which the Playhouse produces. In addition to the new 5-show offering there will be several "Friday Fun Nights" throughout the summer which will include family movie night sing-alongs complete with picnic dinners and solo shows featuring performers from Broadway and Television.
