Charles Stevens BIO

Charles Stevens is proud to call acting and singing his profession. Some of his favorite regional credits include Billy in Once The Musical, King Louis in Hunchback of Notre Dame, Smudge in "Forever Plaid", Samuel in "David: A New Musical", and El Gallo in "The Fantasticks". Almost as much as his love for the stage, is his love for being part of the creative process in workshops and readings; favorites include"Millions" (directed by Bartlett Sher and writing by Adam Guettel), "Lost In Love" (the Air Supply musical), "Oswald: The Musical", and "The Last Adam". He does what he does because he can't see himself doing anything else, and his performances are always dedicated to his wife Lana, and two kids, Lincoln and Finneas, and in memory of his father, Ray.

Review: DESPERATE MEASURES at The Winter Park Playhouse

Sometimes a production comes along that finds the perfect synergy between content, cast and creative vision ultimately delivering an elevated theatrical experience. And when that show is lesser known, but wildly entertaining that makes this perfect alignment seem even more rare. I am thrilled to say that The Winter Park Playhouse has found just such a production in DESPERATE MEASURES, the final offering in its 20th season. This rollicking, hilarious and superbly performed musical comedy is sure to thrill and shows off why The Winter Park Playhouse is truly a gem in the Orlando theatre community.

BWW Review: Strong Performance and Timely Staging Elevate Theater West End's War-Torn Musical, DOGFIGHT

Powerful as that theme may be, DOGFIGHT as written isn't fully the righteous proposition it hopes to be. At its core are some deeply troublesome male figures who engage in truly horrendous behavior, and while theatre is always welcome to put unseemly or complicated characters on the stage, DOGFIGHT never entirely deals with their deeds, which include among other things attempted rape. Playwright Peter Duchan clearly understands his character to be problematic, but their brisk redemption by way of jaunty music and degrees of forgiveness from the women on stage can at times feel like unearned absolution...
