Cecilia Copeland is a Playwright, Screenwriter, and the Artistic Director of New York Madness. Her Plays Include: BIOLIFE Semifinalist for The O’Neill Playwright’s Conference and The David Calicchio Emerging Playwrights Prize, Finalist for Mabou Mines Residency, workshop at TerraNOVA and an Upcoming Reading with The Private Theatre. COURTING Stage Left Productions’ New Play Winner (Workshop Production) and Reading in the undergroundzero festival NYC. LIGHT OF NIGHT Developed at New Dramatists with upcoming Production for the Reopening Season of IATI Theater in 2013. “THE WICKED SON” A Passover Play, named one of the Top Three Best New Jewish Plays, by the Jewish Plays Project. ONE WOMAN, Produced for SWAN Day and winner of the Lennis J. Holm Scholarship for Playwriting Award at the University of Iowa Writer’s Workshop.

One Acts/Films: AMUSEMENT BOMBER, which she adapted into a screenplay that was produced by Artemis Productions with a Special Effects Grant from Metro Screen Australia. Cecilia participated in Write Out Front Produced by Theaterspeak as featured in The New York Times and the 31 Plays in 31 Days Project for which her play, WHAT WE TEACH OUR CHILDREN was selected out of the nationwide submission to be given a staged reading in CA. She is currently adapting WHAT WE TEACH OUT CHILDREN along with several other plays from the 31 Plays in 31 Days project into a screenplay for the short film, SANCTUARY.

Through her company New York Madness she has Produced, Written and Presented work at Ensemble Studios Theatre, The Cherry Lane Theater, INTAR Theater, IATI Theater, and Primary Stages among others including writing for the Minneapolis Branch of US Madness at the Playwright's Center.

Cecilia is an Alumna of The Stella Adler Studio Conservatory in NYC and both Writers Workshops at University of Iowa BA with Honors Minor in Dance and Ohio University MFA. As an Actress and Dancer she was featured on MTV’s 12 Angry Viewers and VH1’s Dancing with the Pointer Sisters.
