The Weston Playhouse Theatre Company lands another coup, bringing the 2013 Tony Award Winner for Best Play, Christopher Durang's Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, to area audiences beginning July 17. Dubbed "deliriously funny" by the New York Times, the comedy is becoming the most-produced play across the country following its celebrated Broadway run.

Abingdon Theatre Company's Pop Up Playhouse offers a special staged reading of the new puppet play MOMMA JUNK by John Trevellini to be presented at 11am on Saturday, February 22 and Sunday, February 23 in Abingdon Theatre Arts Complex's June Havoc Theatre (312 West 36th Street). Jules Ochoa (How I Fell in Love) directs this family-friendly reading, which is FREE and open to the public.

Naked Angels and The New School for Drama presented Angels Ajar, a benefit reading of new work by Jon Robin Baitz, Janine Nabers and student Kirit Limperis last night, Nov. 4. All proceeds to benefit the new partnership between Naked Angels and The New School for Drama. All plays were directed by Daniel Aukin. Producers Bob Boyett and The National Theatre of Great Britain have announced full casting for the upcoming Providence engagement of the 2011 Tony Award-winning Best Play, WAR HORSE. The company, comprised of more than 30 performers, includes Alex Morf as Albert Narracott, Brian Keane as Arthur Narracott, Michael Wyatt Cox as Billy Narracott, Todd Cerveris as Ted Narracott, Angela Reed as Rose Narracott, Jason Loughlin as Lieutenant James Nicholls, and Mat Hostetler as Private Schnabel.

Nick Stafford's adaptation of the novel, WAR HORSE, by Michael Morpurgo is an awe-inspiring and jaw-dropping spectacle brought to life by the Handspring Puppet Company. It's a fascinating and heart-wrenching tale that follows a horse named Joey and a boy named Albert, who will go to great lengths, even joining the Army, to try and locate him. The stagecraft employed for this production is remarkable. The combination of a kind of puppetry where the puppeteer is nearly invisible, dramatic projections for backdrops, and a sharp cast and director, add up to a total theatrical experience that's well worthy of your time and attention. The current touring company now playing the Fox Theatre (through March 24, 2013) is definitely up to the task at hand.
