BWW Review: SEDER at Hartford Stage

Why is tonight different than all other nights? A question that is asked around the tables of Jewish households on Passover around the world every year. It is a question that causes those gathered to consider the suffering of their ancestors in Egypt, at the hand of Pharoah and to consider the little Pharoahs in their own lives. This question is asked for the first time by one family wrought with secrets, guilt and a need for answers in the world premiere of Sarah Gancher's SEDER at Hartford Stage.

Abrons Arts Center's 2017-18 Season to Showcase 29 Premieres Across Disciplines

Abrons Arts Center's 2017-18 season, the first season to be curated by new Artistic Director Craig Peterson, celebrates the idea that a community is a place of intersecting ideas and action. Peterson believes that artists push society forward in ways that challenge our assumptions, politics and social welfare; that artists make room for voices that are too often silenced or sidelined. Gun violence, gentrification, immigration, income and power inequality, freedom, gender, and race are just some of the social issues artists are grappling with this season.

BWW Review: What it Means to Live with Origin Theatre Company's POISON

Poison brings two people together in a cemetery to discuss the desecration and movement of their son's grave, as part of the cemetery's plan to expand. In a style that is incredibly that of Waiting for Godot, this divorced couple comes together and must wait for the person who will come speak to them about their son's grave; of course he doesn't show up. Not having seen or heard from one another in ten long years, they awkwardly await the man that is to save them from their discomfort of being reunited; when he never arrives, they begin to talk about the past.
