BWW Review: THE LAST DAYS OF JUDAS ISCARIOT Asks the Question: WWJD?

Hub Theatre Company of Boston concludes its seventh season with an ambitious undertaking, the time-bending, courtroom dramatic comedy, THE LAST DAYS OF JUDAS ISCARIOT by Pulitzer Prize winning and Tony Award nominated playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis. Boston audiences will recognize his name from two acclaimed productions at SpeakEasy Stage Company in recent years, THE MOTHERf**kER WITH THE HAT and BETWEEN RIVERSIDE AND CRAZY. First staged Off-Broadway at The Public Theater in 2005, THE LAST DAYS is set in Hope, a corner of Purgatory, where a trial is being held to determine Judas' fate: should he ascend to Heaven, or remain in Hell for his crime of betraying Jesus?

BWW Review: THE CHRISTIANS: Come To Jesus At Chelsea Theatre Works

THE CHRISTIANS by Lucas Hnath takes us into the world of an evangelical megachurch, a place that holds a certain amount of mystery for those of us who practice different religions or lack belief in any faith. Apollinaire Theatre Company and Director Brooks Reeves set the stage with a 16-voice choir, accompanied on the organ by their conductor, and a supersized wooden cross looming over them on the upstage wall. To create an ambience of authenticity, when the pastor and his associate make their entrance, they reach into the audience to shake hands and welcome us to the service while the choir rocks out on a processional hymn.

The Bostonian Society Welcomes Return of Site-Specific BLOOD ON THE SNOW

BWW Review: World Premiere of Gabridge's BLOOD ON THE SNOW

BLOOD ON THE SNOW imagines the details of the morning after the Boston Massacre. On March 6, 1770, the acting Royal Governor met with his advisors in the Council Chamber in the Old State House to determine how to restore calm and prevent further bloodshed. The event was a watershed moment for the citizens of Boston on the road to the American Revolution. Patrick Gabridge, the Bostonian Society, and the National Park Service stage the production in the very room where history was made, and the audience becomes the virtual 'fly on the wall.'
