In the small town of Shirley, Vermont, five strangers gather in a dance studio to embark on a unique journey together in a creative drama class for adults. Taught by Marty, their free-spirited and supportive leader, the group - Schultz, a recently divorced, emotionally vulnerable carpenter, Teresa, an earnest and vibrant former actress, James, Marty's quiet and genial husband, and Lauren, a reserved and self-conscious high schooler - move through a series of acting exercises, ranging from the heartbreaking to the ridiculous. In this one small room, through these few seemingly trivial games, quiet wars are waged, emotional wounds are nursed, and healing is finally, slowly, able to begin. In Annie Baker's quiet masterpiece, Circle Mirror Transformation, the audience takes a transcendent journey through the mundane into the profound.

At home on Christmas Eve, Rachel is informed by her guilty husband that he has hired a hitman to kill her, and she must flee for her life-which she does by scrambling out the kitchen window and into the snowy night where she begins a series of picaresque escapades involving numerous psychiatrists and, eventually, an ill-fated reunion with her husband. This richly inventive and often startling dark comedy marked the arrival of an exceptionally imaginative and resourceful young playwright in Craig Lucas. Filled with bizarre characters and events, the play reflects the fractured life-styles which have become the norm for so many in our tenuous times.

The Florida Premiere of Daniel Pearle's play begins on the eve of the admissions cycle for Manhattan's most exclusive private schools; Alex and Greg have high hopes for their son Jake, a precocious four-year-old who happens to prefer Cinderella to G.I. Joe. But as the process continues, Jake's behavior becomes erratic and perplexing, and other adults in his life start to wonder whether his fondness for dress-up might be cause for concern. The story of a husband and wife struggling to do right by their son, A KID LIKE JAKE is a study of intimacy and parenthood and the fantasies that accompany both.

Lake Worth Playhouse is a non-profit community theatre with a diverse array of offerings, including award-winning dramas, comedies, musicals, area premieres, Broadway favorites, children's shows, ballets and operas on film, live concerts, improv comedy and alternative programming. In addition to its main stage theatrical fare, the Playhouse presents year-round independent and foreign films in the Stonzek Theatre, an intimate black-box style theatre equipped with a large viewing screen and high-definition projection. The Playhouse is proud to offer a variety of educational programs for adults and children, as well as community outreach initiatives that bring cultural programs into the neighborhoods of underserved youth and also make theatre available free of charge for disadvantaged citizens in the community.

Re-imagined and unveiled in 2012 by Playhouse Artistic Director Jodie Dixon-Mears and Series Director Daniel Eilola, the Playhouse Black Box Series offers a unique selection of plays featuring the works of nationally and internationally established playwrights whose subjects or themes are both thought provoking and relevant to today's world. All works selected and presented in the series make perfect use of the Playhouse's 70 seat Stonzek Studio Theater, an intimate setting which provides the audience with a personal and visceral theatre going experience. The focus of the series is on the story, writing and acting of a chosen work with very basic technical arrangements.
