The Valencia College Theater will present "The Laramie Project," a play about the murder of gay college student Matthew Shepard, tonight, June 7 to June 10 and June 14-17.

Written by Moises Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theater Project, the play examines what happened in the community of Laramie, Wyo. in 1998, why Shepard was murdered and the role and reaction of the townspeople. Members of the theater group interviewed 200 townspeople to create a dramatic compilation of "moments" from the interviews. Critics have called the play "chilling" and "redemptive."

The play is being directed by Valencia's artistic director, Julia Gagne. The set was designed by Aaron Babcock.
