The winner of Surfside's fourteenth annual Playwriting Contest is John Lineberger, a resident of Brevard County for the past five decades, and a long-time actor and director with Surfside Players. In his play, I Wanted Wings, John, Katherine, and Mark struggle to come to terms with the death of their father, and to try to make sense of a kind, selfless man choosing to destroy himself with alcohol... until a surprise phone call sheds new light on his experiences on a B-17 "Flying Fortress" bomber in World War II, and how war changed him and ultimately the lives of the families of all of the crewmen he flew with.

Starring David Forman, Bob Gray, David Hill, Tom Kramer, Jack Maloney, Joel Shugars, Jamie Storvik, Chris Tsocanos, and Dorothy Wright.
