So it's felt like Summer in Orlando since February, but Summer officially starts on June 21st. While most theater seasons are over, there is still a lot to see around Orlando this Summer. Take a break from the oppressive heat and check out a show in a nice air conditioned venue. Here are BroadwayWorld Orlando's Summer theater picks:

THE FLICK at Dr. Phillips Center's Alexis and Jim Pugh Theater - June 19 - July 12

Winner of the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, THE FLICK tells the story of a rundown movie theater employees in central Massachusetts. They are tasked with mopping the floors and running one of the last 35-millimeter film projectors in the state. Their tiny battles and not-so-tiny heartbreaks play out in the empty aisles, becoming more gripping than the second-run movies on the screen.Tickets to THE FLICK are on sale now and can be purchased at www.drphillipscenter.org. Ticket prices range from $35 to $60.

PRACTICALLY PERFECT: AN EVENING WITH ASHLEY BROWN at Orlando Repertory Theatre - ONE NIGHT ONLY - June 27 at 7pm

Broadway's Ashley Brown comes to Orlando as part of Orlando Repertory Theatre's Youth Academy and their production of MARY POPPINS. This one-night-only concert promises to be a hit for Broadway and Disney fans. Ashley has portrayed Belle in Disney's Beauty and the Beast on Broadway, and is best known as the "practically perfect" Mary Poppins. Tickets are $55 for General Admission; $75 VIP + Meet & Greet. For tickets and more information visit www.orlandorep.com.

THE FROG AND THE PRINCESS at Orlando Shakes - June 18 - July 26

For the kids, I recommend THE FROG AND THE PRINCESS. It is the classic fairytale rewritten and adapted by Brandon Roberts. Prince Gerwyn wants to marry the beautiful princess, but he gets turned into a frog before they can live happily ever after. Orlando Shakes always does a great job of making theater fun and accessible for kids. Be sure to arrive early for fun pre-show activities for the kids. For tickets and more information visit: www.OrlandoShakes.org.

DAMES AT SEA at Winter Park Playhouse - July 24 - August 22

If you loved 42nd Street, Anything Goes or any big tap dancing musical for that matter, then you will want to see DAMES AT SEA. This musical comedy is a parody of all those great 1930s musicals. The young main character gets a shot at a Broadway role and quickly becomes a star. For tickets and more information visit: http://www.winterparkplayhouse.org/.

CLYBOURNE PARK at Mad Cow Theatre - August 7 - September 6

The 2011 Pulitzer Prize Winner for Drama and 2012 Tony Award Winner for Best Play, CLYBOURNE PARK is the before-and-after story based on A RAISIN IN THE SUN. The play explores issues of race and housing in America. For tickets and more information visit www.madcowtheatre.com.
