The Annie Russell Theatre opens its 83rd season with Reefer Madness, a fast-paced musical satire poking fun at the now-infamous 1938 film of the same name. When we first meet Jimmy (Taylor Wright '16) and Mary Lane (MiKayla Phillips '16), they are a clean cut high school couple falling in puppy love. Lured by a gnarly crew of marijuana pushers, Jimmy and Mary are soon in all sorts of trouble - from hallucinations to homicide!

Beneath the campy fun is a timely message about one of Florida's hottest topics. "We chose this production to start a conversation on campus and in the community," says the Annie's Marketing and Box Office Manager, Chelsea Hilend. To that end, the theatre has partnered with the award-winning Rollins College debate team to stage a debate on medical and recreational marijuana use. Faculty from a variety of disciplines will serve as judges at the event on Saturday, September 26th at 5pm in the Annie. Also present will be Kari Hicks, Central Florida Director of United for Care, as well as a representative from the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Reefer Madness opens on September 25th and runs through October 3rd. Tickets are $20, with discounts available for students and seniors. A ticket to opening night includes admission to a reception immediately following the show - butlered champagne service, live music, and themed treats from Paris Bistro on Park Avenue.
