"Before 'Debbie "Did" Dallas', 'Greece' was the word!"

Oklahoma City-Oklahoma City Repertory Theatre (CityRep), in partnership with Oklahoma City University's TheatreOCU presents one of the oldest and funniest "classic" comedies in civilized history. LYSISTRATA, by Aristophanes, originally produced in 411 BC, remains one of the most produced comedies in history. The story of one woman's ingenious plan to end the endless Peloponnesion War by gathering all the women of Greece and swearing them to an oath to withhold sexual favors until the men agree to negotiate an end to the war is as broad and bawdy today as it was for ancient Athenians. This production is rated R, with adult themes, situations, and language.

Playing the title character is Equity professional guest artist Lydia Mackay. Ms. Mackay is based in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, where she was named "Best Local Actress" by the Dallas Observer in 2008. Ms. Mackay has won numerous awards for her work, including the Leon Rabin Best Actress Award for her performance in DAINTY SHAPES AND HAIRY APES, and appeared opposite Lou Diamond Phillips as Joanne Galloway in A FEW GOOD MEN. Making a cameo appearance will be CityRep Artistic Director Donald Jordan

Adaption of the original material is by local playwright and CityRep Founding Member James Tyra. Mr. Tyra has appeared on stages across the city, and served as CityRep's dramaturg for our first seven seasons. For CityRep he has appeared in LAUGHTER ON THE 23rd FLOOR, THE OKLAHOMA CITY PROJECT, OUR TOWN, and THE LARAMIE PROJECT, and co-directed MOONLIGHT AND MAGNOLIAS.

Also appearing are Oklahoma City artists Michael Gibbons, Cindy Hanska, Kurt Leftwich and Michelle Swink, and Oklahoma City University student actors Mollie Armour, Daryl Bradford, Lauryn Caruso, Ramie Casebolt, Tyler Clark, Jason Clements, Laura Cooper, Brooke Culbertson, Sofia Esteve, Drew Michael Feldman, Caitlin Garner, Mary-E Godfrey, Kentaly Holloway, Brandon Kreider, Amanda Martinez, Carly McGehee, Nathan Mickle, Sarah Murray, Jess Nicolls, Stephen Ochsner, Tess Salcedo, William Frederick Steuernagel V, Arika Trabona, and Aaron Wertheim

Guest Artist Emily Gray will direct. Ms. Gray has appeared previously with CityRep as Frosine in THE MISER, and as Myra Arundel in HAY FEVER. Space Design is by Don Childs, with Final Scene Design by Ben Hall, Jayson Phillips, and Donald Jordan. Costume Design is by Aaron Patrick Turner, Lighting Design by Tristan Decker, Sound Design by Matthew Gray, and Properties Design by Josh Cain.
