"We came through the depression by the skin of our teeth -- that's true -- one more tight squeeze like that and where will we be?" The Heights Players is proud to present the 1942 Pulitzer Prize winner, The Skin of Our Teeth, by Thorton Wilder.

The Skin of Our Teeth is an epic romp combining farce, burlesque and satire that explores the many follies of mankind. Will humanity ever learn lessons from mistakes made?

The Skin of Our Teeth chronicles the trials and tribulations of mankind as it narrowly escapes one end-of-the-world disaster after another, from the Ice Age to flood to war. The play begins in fictional Excelsior, New Jersey, where the seemingly normal and happy "Everyman" family, the Antrobuses, and their maid Sabina live. Soon they are faced with the perils of the world before them when an iceberg threatens to destroy all of mankind.

The action then moves to Atlantic City, where Mr. Antrobus has just been elected President of the Ancient and Honorable Order of Mammals, Subdivision Human. But again, an apocalyptic threat hovers over the celebrations and promises total destruction.

Finally, the story wraps up back in the Antrobus home where a seven-year war has just ended. The Skin of Our Teeth comes fully equipped with a domesticated dinosaur and mammoth, an off-the-wall Fortune Teller and raucous conveeners, as well as Adam and Eve and Cain and Abel.

This production celebrates the directing debut of Michael Kidney at The Heights Players. Kidney has previously choreographed many Heights Players productions and was choreographer of Ghostlight, a highly buzzed about musical by Tim Realbuto and Matthew Martin.

About The Skin of Our Teeth, Kidney says, "I think of all of Wilder's work, this is the most brilliantly written. He has a clever way of disguising what everyone is thinking and feeling behind absurdities." He adds, "This is a play that will forever appeal to mankind. In the same breath, sometimes it may be hard to swallow because it often forces you to look in the mirror."
