THE COMIC STRIP LIVE, the longest living comedy club in the country, will inaugurate its pioneering effort to present some of the best one and two person theatrical shows from around the country with Jack Freiberger's THEY CALL ME MISTER FRY - the true life story of a first-year teacher, "Mr. Fry", in South Central Los Angeles, teaching a 5th grade class. Hailed as, "a talented blend of comedy and emotion eliciting respect for all our teachers around the world," by Valley Scene Magazine and "uniformly excellent" by Backstage, the play tells what happens when a white boy from Indiana ends up teaching fifth graders in South Central Los Angeles.

The funny yet poignant true story follows writer-performer Freiberger's first year in a classroom where the unexpected happens every day and the "teacha" becomes the student. Packed with humor and drama, it's a coming of age story not only for the students, but for the teacher as well. The show is produced by Robert D. Wachs and Richie Tienken, the club's founding partners and longtime personal managers and film producers for such stars as Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall and others.

Upon request from the Department of Education Jack Freiberger will give a "Command Performance" of THEY CALL ME MISTER FRY in Washington DC on Wednesday, October 28. This happens to take place on the eve of the reauthorization vote by the House and the Senate of the "No Child Left Behind" bill.

The show was selected "Best Of The Fest" by DC theater critics from the recent 2009 Washington Capital Fringe Festival where the Washington City Paper raved, "What Freiberger dramatizes most masterfully and intimately is the triumphant tragedy of the self recognition." The one man show was also given the distinction of Best Male Monologue of the Cap Fringe by allartsreview4u.com.

Developed in Mark Travis's one-person show workshop and further developed under the auspices of Jeff Michalski, Tom Blomquist, and Mitchel Uscher, THEY CALL ME MISTER FRY was first performed January 2001 at the Lex Theater in Los Angeles, California for an extended four month run. Jack has been performing the show to critical acclaim, standing ovations and sold out houses while also performing the duties of a full time teacher.

JACK FREIBERGER is an actor and fully credentialed teacher who lives in Los Angeles, California. He has starred in various independent films and has been seen on stage throughout the LA area. As a full-time educator, Jack has been inspiring the "next generation" in the Los Angeles Unified School District since 1990. In addition, Jack has acted in and done voiceover work for over 30 educational films geared towards children for Media, Inc. - not only can these films be seen on Nickelodeon, but his films are also distributed in classrooms nationwide.
