The Brick Theater, Inc. presents the world premiere of PARIS BELONGS TO US, the latest multimedia theatre production from Dangerous Ground (under the artistic direction of Doris Mirescu) based on the 1961 film of the same name by Jacques Rivette. Preview performances of PARIS BELONGS TO US begin December 10th prior to an official press opening of December 11th at The Brick (579 Metropolitan Avenue, Brooklyn NY).

Written by Jacques Rivette and Jean Gruault; and conceived, designed and directed by Doris Mirescu PARIS BELONGS TO US is the latest multimedia theatre experience from Dangerous Ground. A murder mystery unfolding in contemporary Paris; a young girl/detective looking for the truth; a group of actors rehearsing Shakespeare's "Pericles;" a political refugee; a femme fatale and a theatre director; a lost recording; a love story; an unfinished play; frightening secrets; comedy; revolution; and much more.

An intricate set-up of live video feed and projections create an environmental theatrical experience that deconstructs perception. A complex layering involving film and theater language searches for new forms of storytelling and ways of portraying intimacy. After their adaptation of Céline and Julie Go Boating performed in a storefront in Bushwick as part of the 2012 undergroundzero festival, and their adaptation of Rivette's film L'Amour Fou last February, Dangerous Ground's members and director Doris Mirescu continue their exploration of French filmmaker Jacques Rivette's world. Theatre and film mix in an ever-challenging multilayered self-reflexive reality/non-reality. PARIS BELONGS TO US is the second segment of a Jacques Rivette trilogy presented by The Brick. Preceded by L'Amour Fou and ending with Rivette's 1971 12 hour long masterpiece, Out 1: Don't Touch Me, 3 by Rivette is a yearlong epic multimedia adventure that experiments with time, decomposition, politics, love, poetry and the longing for revolution.

The cast of PARIS BELONGS TO US includes: Brooke Bell, Josh Berkowitz, Kira Davies, Penny Folger, Javier Antonio Gonzales, Susannah Hoffman, Melissa Hudson, Bree Merkwan, Craig Newman, Tiff Roma, Veraalba Santa, David Skeist, Steven Slate, Mickey Solis, and Marcos Toledo.

The production and design team for PARIS BELONGS TO US is: Marshall Miller (set/technical supervision, video/sound installation); Kira Davis and Marshall Miller (lights); Doron Bloomfield, Craig Newman and Michael Rekevics (live cameras); Tim Race (live guitar); Doris Mirescu (set & costume design, art direction); and Tiffany Roma (assistant to the director).

Dangerous Ground creates multimedia theatre. With each production it seeks to discover the nomadic region where bodies, images, sounds and words collide and where the theatrical space is the limit of utmost danger. The company was founded in May 2001 by director Doris Mirescu. Permanent members are David Bianco, Kira Davies, Penny Folger, Patrick Flynn, Gayle Greene, Emilie Gruat, Susannah Hoffman, Mark Lechner, Ed Malone, Bree Merkwan, Marshall Miller, Francis Oberle and Mickey Solis. Dangerous Ground has created multimedia works in New York City and abroad, including L'Amour Fou, a multimedia adaptation of Jacques Rivette's 1969 film (The Brick), ...But the Next Morning (based on Jacques Rivette's 1974 film Céline and Julie go Boating), It's Too Late (based on Jean Eustache's film The Mother and The Whore), John Cassavetes' Husbands, Fassbinder's In a Year with 13 Moons (From Dawn till Night), Beware of A Holy Whore and The Third Generation (3!), Bertolucci's Last Tango in Paris, as well as Maurice Blanchot's Madness of Day, Neil LaBute's The Distance from Here and Koltès' Battle of Black and Dogs.
