Sanguine Theatre to Offer Talkback After Performance of WILD, 3/28

Sanguine Theatre Company invites its patrons to an engaging talkback: "WILD: Modern Relationships Onstage, Sexual Identity, and the Development of Crystal Skillman's Latest Indie Hit," following the 8:00pm performance of WILD on March 28 at the IRT Theater. The talkback will feature WILD playwright Crystal Skillman and director Evan F. Caccioppoli, Abigail Katz of Atlantic Theater Company, Martin Denton of Indie Theater Now, and the producers and cast of Wild.

Peter and Bobby graduated from Northwestern together, live together, work together, sleep together. But when one of them cheats with a woman, they dive into a world of wild sexual affairs that threaten what they once had. But through this cycle of destruction and repair, will they find a different kind of love? WILD finally arrives in NYC after years of transformation, labor, and love. Originally commissioned as a 10-minute scene, WILD was later developed through readings at the Lucille Lortel through MCC's Playlabs and at the UK's Southwark Theatre through Kibo Productions. WILD received its world premiere with Kid Brooklyn Productions in Chicago in 2012.

The talkback, moderated by Atlantic Theater Company's Abigail Katz, will center on the play's development, its debatable identity as a "gay play," and its fresh, honest take on modern love. WILD has many founders, backers, and developers; it has touched many lives before it reached the NY stage, and we want to highlight that. As the character Ted says, "Everyone in love...everyone feels something like that in their heart because they've known someone they can't let go."

The play deals with modern relationships, with the center being a relationship between two men. What is the modern gay relationship in theatre today? We don't identify this as a gay play; we see it as a play about love. But this play has been called a gay play by some; why does it need this label? We'll discuss sexual identity and fluidity in the characters of Peter, Jordy, Vin, and Nikki. What is modern sexual identity, and how is it accepted onstage and in the world today?

WILD is currently running through April 6th at IRT Theater in the West Village. It stars Hunter Canning (The Outs, Whatever This Is, Broadway's War Horse) and is directed by Evan F. Caccioppoli. The production also features David Armanino, Joshua Levine, Lyonel Reneau, Jeff Ronan and Diana Stahl. Sanguine Theatre Company produces.
