Sometimes a day at the park with your kids is no picnic. SAHM's Club is a dispatch from deep in the Brooklyn Mommy Game where Free Rangers and Helicopters expose the methods behind their madness and the madness behind their methods.

Playwright Bree O'Connor began writing SAHM's Club as a release valve from the stressors of Brooklyn parenting. Were it not for a tequila-fueled Mom's Night Out, O'Connor's play might still be languishing in a hidden desktop file. A solemn pact among the participants forbids us from revealing any details of that evening, but we CAN state with confidence that no animals were harmed and any incidents of public nudity you may have heard about have been grossly exaggerated.

In October of 2015, Playful Substance chose SAHM's Club as the main event for the first Good Works Reading Series, a curated food, music and staged reading event designed to promote new works while also raising funds for worthy local organizations. In this instance, all proceeds went to benefit the Parent Association at PS 118 The Maurice Sendak Community School to support arts and science programming. Look for future Good Works in 2017, which will be announced on playfulsubstance.com.

Jill DeArmon, a member of LAByrinth Theater Company, directed the 2015 reading for Good Works. DeArmon is a director and choreographer whose brash, infectious energy and wicked insight infuses all of her work, so bringing her back for a full production of SAHM's Club was an easy choice. DeArmon is also the co-founder and Artistic Director of Developing Artists; a non-profit that empowers young artists to find and refine their artistic voices.
