The team behind FringeNYC's 2010 "Best of Fest" musical "Pope!" and 2011 NYC guerilla theater show "The Spidey Project" will return to the New York International Fringe Festival stage with its newest musical "Nightfall on Miranga Island".

"Nightfall on Miranga Island" is the swashbuckling tale of Declan Bruntfodder, a young man on a quest to find pirate captain Vicious Martin LaFoe so he can avenge his father and rescue his captured sister.  As the story unfolds, the audience is taken along on Declan's not-quite-a-hero's journey of cantankerous pirates, forbidden romance, mythical creatures and even a little bit of cross-dressing.  Early reviews have called this adventurous musical "a boisterous, hysterical cross pollination of Gilbert and Sullivan, Saturday Night Love and Monty Python".

Nightfall" is Compass Theatrical's the third musical in just two years, continuing the collaboration between "Pope" and "Spidey" writer/director Justin Moran and writer/actor Jon Roufaeal, longtime collaborators and friends who grew up together in New Jersey.  Moran and Roufaeal first previewed "Nightfall" in Fall 2011 with a sold out ten-week run at The Magnet Theater, where both men are also veteran improvisers.

The show contains 14 original songs, all written by Moran/Roufaeal and composed by identical twin brothers Adam Podd and Matt Podd.  The Podd brothers will lead the five-piece band that plays live during each performance.  "Nightfall" also features the work of expert choreographer David Rossetti who will be making his own Broadway debut later this year in "Annie".

"Nightfall on Miranga Island" debuts at The Players Theater (115 MacDougal Street) tonight, August 12 at 9:15PM.  Additional shows are Sat 8/18 @ 2:15PM, Sun 8/19 @ 5:15PM, Wed 8/22 @ 2:00PM, and Closing Night is Friday 8/24 @ 7:00PM.
