Inproximity Theatre Company will present the New York premiere of John Corwin's drama NAVY PIER as a kick off to its 2011-2012 Season with previews beginning on Thursday, May 5 at the Theatre Row Studio Theater (410 W 42nd Street). The production will have its official opening on Wednesday, May 12, 2011. Bryn Boyce directs.

IN a swift 90 minutes, NAVY PIER interweaves the stories of college friends and aspiring writers Martin and Kurt, along with Liv and Iris, (the women in their lives) in intersecting monologues and flashbacks. Each of them must navigate rocky waters when personal and professional lives collide. This one-act play confronts the painful and poignant journey of finding your own voice.

Playwright John Corwin was a founding member of Wax Lips Theatre Company in Chicago, which premiered his plays NAVY PIER and GONE HOME. NAVY PIER was subsequently produced in London at the Soho Theatre (2000). GONE HOME was subsequently produced in New York by Manhattan Theatre Club (2002). Other plays include REAL HUSH-HUSH, produced by Merrimack Rep (2006). John has written for British television, including Night and Day. He is currently developing a series for British television, The Red Squirrel. He is a graduate of Illinois State University.

Director Bryn Boice helmed InProximity's premiere production ORANGE FLOWER WATER. She brings the same "honest and raw" approach to NAVY PIER that she brought not only to ORANGE FLOWER WATER but to her InProximity acting debut in Donald Margulies' SIGHT UNSEEN last fall.

The cast of NAVY PIER features Josh Clayton, Michael Poignand, and InProximity founding members Jolie Curtsinger and Laurie Schaefer.

Performances of NAVY PIER are on Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm through May 22. Special matinee performances will be offered on Saturday May 14 and 21 at 2pm.

Scenic Design is by James J. Fenton, Lighting Design is by Lisa Soverino, Sound Design is by Amy Altadonna, Technical Director is Matthew Vieira, Stage Manger is Jasmin Sanchez, and the Associate Producer is Jenna Gottlieb.

Tickets for NAVY PIER are $18 and can be purchased online at www.telecharge.com, by calling 800.432.7250 or at the Theatre Row box office prior to each performance.
