After a critically acclaimed run at the 2016 New York International Fringe Festival, The Department of Fools is bringing back their Fringe hit A History of Servitude playing at The Peoples Improv Theatre (The PIT) throughout February and early March, 2017. The internationally diverse company includes Yair Ben-Dor (ABC's Quantico), Jessenia Cuesta, Gjermund Gjesme, Matthew A.J. Gregory (Power of Darkness/The Mint), Silvia Morigi, Ben Rademacher, Andy Richardson (Newsies & Gypsy - Broadway), Brandon Salerno, Alec Seymor, Anna Tempte, and Rotem Weiner.

A History of Servitude is a comic survey of world history, from the dawn of man to the present. A celebration of the eternal struggle of the underdog; A History of Servitude is part improv, part sketch comedy, part insanity. The Department of Fools brings audiences on a wildly participatory, slightly intoxicated, and extremely bawdy ride through history.

History remembers men (and to a much lesser extent women, which is lampooned as well) of greatness, who through conquest, innovation and accomplishment have left an indelible mark on the story of man. But what about the servants of these giants? Using the boldly physical comedy of Commedia dell'Arte, the Fools bring attention to the contributions of the working class to history, which all too often goes unnoticed. Slaves built the pyramids, but it's the pharaohs whose names live on. A History of Servitude posits a comic reminder that 'the little people' are the ones on whose back much of history rests, despite the fact that the masters get all the credit.

All performances take place at The Peoples Improv Theater - Underground, 123 East 24th Street (Between Park Ave. & Lexington Ave.). Subways: 6/N/R/F/M to 23rd Street. Tickets are $10.00 and are available at to www.thepit-nyc.com/event/2017-02-03-a-history-of-servitude - Running time 60 minutes.
