Broken Heart Land, a Finalist in the 2012 Native American New Play Festival is a full-length play by Cherokee Nation playwright Vicki Lynn Mooney and directed by Tony White. Broken Heart Land is the heart wrenching story of Alma Wimsey, the mixed-blood daughter of a Cherokee father and white mother. At thirteen she is manipulated into an arranged marriage so that her white grandfather can gain control over her tribal land including the valuable railroad through Tulsa. The story is one of love and power within the Native community during the devastating land grab by white interlopers in Oklahoma when it was still Indian Territory.

Dobbs Ferry playwright Vicki Lynn Mooney has written a trilogy of plays Broken Heart Land, Hoop Jumper and Thicker Than Oil that explore what it means to be a mixed-blood, with a foot in two worlds but truly being part of neither. Mooney takes us to the core of what the real American story is -- revealing a history unknown to most Americans.

Ms. Mooney's first play, Cake and Sippin' Whiskey was produced on Theatre Row in 1984 and published by The Dramatic Publishing Company in 1985. Her monologue, Sparrow on the Oklahoma City bombing was featured in the Ensemble Studio Theatre Marathon 1997 (published by Smith-Kraus) and later performed by Oscar winner, Patricia Neal in NY and at sea on the Cunard Cruise Lines. Lucky from PATCHWORK was published in "Best Men's Stage Monologues of 1997" (Smith Kraus). She has received many readings and productions of plays over the years mostly in New York City and Los Angeles. Ms. Mooney is a member of the Dramatists Guild.

Matt C. Cross Matt C. Cross, 22, a member of the Oklahoma City Theatre Company came to NY from Oklahoma to play the role of Tsimi, and will make his New York City stage debut in the play.
