Casting Announced For Theatre C's DISoRIENTED

Theatre C will present Kyoung H. Park's (Sex and Hunger; Heartbreak/India; EST's Youngblood) disOriented, February 16-March 5 at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater (416 West 42nd Street). The production will be directed by Theatre C Artistic Director, Carlos Armesto (Binding; The Who's Tommy) and will feature Ariel Estrada* (Far East), Daniel K. Isaac* (Miss Electricity at La Jolla Playhouse; Balm In Gilead at Steppenwolf), Talynm Jinn Kim (LABrynth member, Developing Artists Theater Co.), Yanghee Lee, Julian Charles Leong (NY debut), Bert Matias (Snow Falling On Cedars), Amy Kim Waschke* (Somebody/Nobody at Arizona Theatre Company), and Virginia Wing* (Chu Chem). The creative team will include Costume Design by Carla Bellisio (Ghost Light; Southern Promises dir. Jose Zayas), Lighting Design by Jake DeGroot (Call Me Anne with Blue Coyote), Set Design by Adam Koch (Rooms: A Rock Romance; Title of Show), Sound Design by David Margolin Lawson (Kenneth Brannagh's Mary Shelley's Frankenstein; The Man Who Fell to Earth), and Choreography by Elisabetta Spuria (Tess: A New Rock Opera; The Who's Tommy).

disOriented tells the story of Ju Yeon, an immigrant living in New York, who has distanced herself from her Korean Roots. When a sudden crisis hits her family, she must return to Korea and face the parents and the life she abandoned long ago. A dancing spirit caught between the worlds of tradition and modernity guides us through past and present, propelling the family members to their ultimate fates.

The production, presented by Theatre C (Carlos Armesto, Producer; Evan O'Brient & Renee Blinkwolt, Line Producers) will play a three-week engagement at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater (416 West 42nd Street), February 16-March 5, Thursdays & Fridays at 7:30pm, Saturdays at 3pm & 7:30pm, and Sundays at 4pm, following an opening night performance on Wednesday, February 16 at 7pm. THEATRE C was founded in November 2009 to move audiences and open minds by creating vibrant theatre through the unexpected fusion of disparate art forms. Led by Artistic Director, Carlos Armesto, Theatre C presents plays, musicals and events that meld puppetry and burlesque, video and dance, acrobatics and installations, hip hop, rock, salsa, and much more. Blurring the line between disciplines and cultures, the company is a part of the next stage in theatre's evolution.

In their inaugural season alone, Theatre C has received critical acclaim on multiple levels. Theatre C's commission of dancer and choreographer Jesse Zaritt to create a dance-theatre piece for the soloNOVA Arts Festival, presented by terraNOVA Collective, was extended and nominated for three New York Innovative Theatre Awards. Jesse Zaritt's BINDING won awards in all three categories: Outstanding Choreography/Movement, Outstanding Solo-Performer, and Outstanding Performance Art Production. Following the successful production of BINDING, Theatre C collaborated with ReVision Theatre (their fiscal sponsor) to associate produce a revival of Pete Townshend's The Who's TOMMY presented in the old Carousel House in Asbury Park, New Jersey. Carlos Armesto directed and the production received rave reviews and was extended by popular demand.

KYOUNG H. PARK (Playwright) Kyoung is a Korean-Chilean playwright, author of Sex and Hunger, disOriented, Heartbreak/India, and many short plays including Mina. His work has been presented in several Off/Off-Off-Broadway venues including New Dramatists, Culture Project, Ensemble Studio Theater, Ma-Yi Theater, Vital Theater, Diverse City Theater, Flea Theatre, Access Theater, Lark Play Development Center, and the Royal Court Theater in London. Kyoung is recipient of an Edward Albee Playwriting Fellowship (New York, 04), Kyung Hee University's Global Academy of Neo-Renaissance Grant (Seoul, 06), Arvon Foundation Writer's Grant (London, 07), Global Arts Village Fellowship (New Delhi, 08), GK Foundation Grant (Suwon, 08), Theater of the Oppressed Exchange Fellowship (Rio de Janeiro, 09), and is proud member of Ma-Yi Theater's Writer's Lab, Ensemble Studio Theater's Youngblood, Soho Theater's Hub, and graduate of The Royal Court Theatre's Young Writer's Programme. Education: BFA in Dramatic Writing, NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. MA in Peace and Global Governance, Kyung Hee University's Graduate Institute of Peace Studies (South Korea / 1994 UNESCO Prize for Peace Education). Former Visiting Professor at Kyung Hee University's School of English Language and Culture, Kyoung is currently a Dean's Fellow at Columbia University's MFA program in playwriting.

Carlos Armesto (Director) is the Artistic Director of Theatre C, a New York based theatre company devoted to creating innovative and arresting theatrical events through the fusion of diverse artistic forms. A director and producer, Mr. Armesto is a former Associate Artistic Director of The Ensemble Studio Theatre. Projects with Theatre C include Binding by Jesse Zaritt (Extended by P.S. 122/soloNOVA Arts Festival and winner of three NY Innovative Theatre Awards), The Who's Tommy (at ReVision Theatre, Extended), The Ugly Swan by Sammy Buck & Dan Acquisto, Displaced by Lori Fischer, and (e)vaporate by christopher oscar peña and Parker Ferguson. Notable directing credits include: Kingdom (ReVision Theatre; Best Musical of the Season - Star Ledger) and Serendib by David Zellnik (EST-Sloan Mainstage 2007). Education: MFA Directing, Carnegie Mellon; BS Theatre & Chemical Engineering, M.I.T. Honors: Bill Foeller Director's Fellowship (Williamstown), Audelco Award Nomination 2006 (Dramatic Production of the Year, Relativity); Princess Grace Award 2005; Princess Grace Special Project Award 2010.
