Babel Theatre Productions (Geordie Broadwater, Artistic Director, Jeremy Blocker, Producing Director ) presents the world premiere of James Carmichael's Stomp and Shout an' Work it All Out) directed by Geordie Broadwater.  Stomp and Shout will begin performances Thursday, May 29 opening Sunday, June 1 and will run through June 21 at Upstairs at the 45th Street Theatre (354 West 45th Street).

From 1963 to 1965, the F.B.I. undertook a national investigation into the lyrics of the popular song, "Louie, Louie."* Stomp and Shout finally reveals this quintessentially American story.     *True story.

As the nation stumbles into the heart of the 60's, two dedicated agents probe the mystery of the incomprehensible song, each step bringing them deeper into a tangled web of Governors, record impresarios, R&B men, and a youth culture waiting to explode. While one agent's obsession grows, the other finds the line between his personal and professional lives blurring. Stomp and Shout is Dragnet meets American Bandstand, capturing a moment in American history when pop, politics, and the American Dream collided to create something entirely new.

The cast includes: Christopher Rubin (I Hate Outer Space  TV "Law & Order), Geraldine Bartlett (True West, Edinburgh), Brian D. Coats (Public's Merry Wives of Windsor, Two Gentleman of Verona), Carolyn McCandlish (Happy Hour, Donnie Darko ART), William Jackson Harper (Paradise Park, Queens Boulevard The Musical), Katrina Foy (National Tour The Barber of Seville),  Cary McClelland,  Joe Mullen, Frank Rodriguez, Jeremy Schwartz (Film: Radiant, Montclair, Staten Island with Ethan Hawke), Joe C. CREATIVE TEAM

James Carmichael (Playwright) is a member of the Royal Court Young Writer's Programme and graduate of its Advanced Invitational Workshop. His play, Eddystone, was the YWP's 2003 "Play of the Season" and was workshopped at The Royal Court. Pilgrims, his next play, was Babel's inaugural production in 2005, running in both New York and at the Edinburgh Fringe. James holds a magna cum laude degree in literature from Harvard University and is a graduate of the 2-year postgraduate acting course at the London Academy of Music and Drama.

Geordie Broadwater (Director) is the co-founder and artistic director of the Babel Theatre Project.  Directing credits include: Macbeth, Othello, Death and the Maiden, The Rise and Rise of Daniel Rocket for the Brown/Trinity Consortium, Temptation, The Conduct of Life, Much Ado About Nothing, and Baal at Harvard University.  In addition to his productions with Babel, Geordie has directed the following new plays: Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom by Jen Haley at Brown/Trinity Rep Playwrights Theatre, Food Porn by Andy Bragen, Big John and Little Ben by Sam Marks, The Passion Sell by Emily Carmichael.   Geordie has a BA from Harvard and an MFA in Directing at the Brown/Trinity Rep Consortium.

Babel Theatre Project was founded in 2004 to give uniquely theatrical works a first staging with integrity and care. The company was founded on the belief that live theatre continues to be our most vibrant and immediate art form: a play springs to life in the audience's presence, without the filter of screen, or page, or canvas. In the same room, audience and artists together create something unique- an exchange of thought and emotion- a connection- that can never be repeated or even properly described. Theatre's ability to rejuvenate and redefine gives it a power and intimacy that no other form can imitate. Babel Theatre Project is dedicated to supporting playwrights at each step of the creative process. Babel has given more than a dozen readings to works in development. In the coming seasons, Babel will give writers the opportunity to showcase their works in full productions, workshop productions, and readings.
