3rd Kulture Kids to Launch IN TRANSIT Reading Series at Somethin' Jazz, 4/8, 15 & 22

3rd Kulture Kids is a theatre and film Production Company dedicated to producing new work created by the lost citizens of the world. 3K2 will provide a home and a voice for multicultural artists, spreading their unique perspective on life.

The readings will be the NYC PREMIERES of three new plays. Three plays, three destinations, three fantastic writers.

8th of April: Fake Chinaman in Rehab by Daniel York directed by Ron Nakahara.

Mixed race Chinese siblings Andy and Tina take heroin in a provincial town. Andy tentatively falls in love with Haley, a sinophile Beijing Opera performer. But he is a "fake Chinaman". Who takes heroin... A funny and moving tale about love, loss and how it feels to be culturally ambiguous

15th of April: The Derry Slope Off by Jack Gilhooley directed by Blake Walton.

In the wake of Northern Ireland's 1972 "Bloody Sunday" - young IRA activist Deirdre Lynch "sloped off" to America. She lived a respectable life, raising four children. But after 40 years, her past has come back to haunt her as well as her family.

22nd of April: Holy Land by Mohamed Kacimi, translated by Chantal Bilodeau and directed by Tracy Cameron Francis.

A city under siege. The landscape is white, dusty and devastated. A dark and humorous story of 5 characters hanging on to the banality of day-to-day life, at times to the point of insanity, as a way to transcend the atrocities of war.

DANIEL YORK was born of mixed Singaporean/English parentage and grew up in the UK. As an actor he created the role of John Lee in Chay Yew's Porcelain and has worked at the Royal Shakespeare Company, National Theatre and played Fortinbras to Alan Rickman's Hamlet as well as appearing in the feature films The Beach and Rogue Trader. As a writer and director his short film, Mercutio's Dreaming: The Killing Of A Chinese Actor, was recently nominated for four awards at the World Independent Music & Film Festival and his stage play The Fu Manchu Complex is being produced in London October 2013.

Ron Nakahara is an award winning director/actor born in Hawaii, Senior Artist and Associate with New York's Pan Asian Repertory Theatre. Ron has directed one-woman shows and worked extensively with the Asian-American performance group SLANT. Other selected credits include NAATCO, Ensemble Studio Theatre (NY) and Fulton Opera House (Lancaster, PA). He has served on several NEA panels and was one of the first recipients of an NEA/TCG Directing Fellowship.

Jack Gilhooley has dual U.S./Ireland citizenship. The Derry Slope Off was written during his recent Fulbright Fellowship guest artist residency at National University/Maynooth. His plays have been produced extensively and he has garnered about sixty awards. He's published by Broadway Play Publishing (Plays by Jack Gilhooley), Samuel French, Inc, Smith & Kraus, Palmetto Press, New American Library, Meriwether Publishing and The Good Ear.

BLAKE WALTON recently directed Ann Morrison's solo play Linda Lovely Goes To Broadway in which Morrison was honored with the "BEST ACTRESS" Award. Other credits include In The Moment (Variations Theater Group, NY), Out of My Mind (Bailiwick, Chicago) The Charm (The Theater Building, Chicago), Singin' in the rain, 42nd Street and Marvin's Room (Florida).

Originally from Algeria, MOHAMED KACIMI is a poet, playwright, novelist, translator, journalist and the president of Écritures Vagabondes - an organization that puts together international writing residencies. He is a recipient of the Prix Lugano du théâtre, the 2005 Prix SACD de la francophonie and a Jury Special Mention from the Grand Prix de littérature dramatique 2007. He is based in Paris.

CHANTAL BILODEAU is an award winning New York based playwright and translator originally from Montreal, Canada (2014 Woodward International Playwriting Prize, 2012 Earth Matters and 2011 Uprising National Playwriting Competition). She has received multiple commissions and is the recipient of a Jerome Travel & Study Grant and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship.

Tracy Cameron Francis is an Egyptian-American theatre director and interdisciplinary artist. She has directed and developed work with New York Theatre Workshop, LaMama Umbria (Italy), NY Arab American Comedy Festival, NY International Fringe and Falaki Theatre (Egypt). Artistic director of Hybrid Theatre Works, core member of Theatre Without Borders, member of Lincoln Center Directors Lab, associate member of SDC.
