This will stay forever.

Shows like this don't need critics' praise.

I wouldn't be surprised if changes are made to the production, though.

The fans will keep it going, I think.

Not much love either from Charles Spencer.

'I’ll tell you what I wanted, what I really, really wanted – I wanted this terrible show to stop.'

This musical is tawdry, lazy and unedifying, and one could sense a miasma of disappointment emanating from an audience of up-for-it Spice Girls fans slowly realising that they had paid top whack to see a clunker.

It has sold too well to close too fast but the fans wont keep it going if the ones I sat next to were anything to go by, they were very disappointed.
Its not like WWRY or Mamma Mia or even Thriller live where the hits are performed well by good singers, even if the books suck.

It's virtually critic proof, sadly

It has the advance so high its almost recouped. The second booking period will be released shortly in time for ITV documentary on putting the show together at Xmas that I'm sure will sell lots of tickets.

The show will see 2013 and more than likely 2014, but as word of mouth isn't good and I just can see fans liking it so much they want to go again and again, it won't become a long runner but a show that will a good money spinner for all involved. I'm not sure how Broadway plans will fare though...

If it goes to transfers to Broadway, it'll be crucified by the NY and not last very long. I think the advance will keep it going for at least the end of next year.

The Time out one is brilliant.
http://www.timeout.com/london/theatre/event/268828/viva-forever

" 'Viva Forever!' is not fun or refreshing, largely because instead of giving us the in-yer-face full arrangements of 'Say You'll Be There', 'Who Do You Think You Are', '2 Become 1' et al, it treats these enjoyable pop ditties as endlessly malleable Dylanesque narratives: chopped and changed and stopped and started, sung out of key and stripped of their bounce in order to further Saunders's rubbishy script."

Cannot say I am surprised with these reviews! The idea of a musical based on the music of the Spice Girls sounded awful from the get-go and I have absolutely NO desire to see this. Their songs for me are not at all theatrical and do not have the substance nor storytelling to sustain a musical. At least with "Mamma Mia", while I hate piece, the songs are in some way theatrical and tell a story.

This just shows that the general theatre going public will pay for any old crap as long as it has songs they recognise!

Looking at the pictures of Judy Craymer and the piles of cash she has made from her other minor hit, looks as she has kept several plastic surgeons gainfully employed over the years, for this was she will need a cardiologist close to hand!

Can we just remember that Mamma Mia had largely positive reviews- it did not have to survive such a wave of criticism.

viva also doesnt seem to be winning the fans over either as word of mouth isnt great. what i like about many of these reviews is that the reviewers clearly werent expecting a masterpiece but they were (as i think most people would be) a fun energetic entertaining night out...and they didnt get it. ghe show doesnt seem to reflect the spice girls spirit at all and looks very ugly

WWRY didnt get great reviews but despite a weak story (although i think the actual concept has potential) it gave fans a good night out and what they want. MM likewise, although a stronger story also helps.

if it doesnt catch on it could eat through its advance and end up like lnd and ghost.

also, in fairness ghost didnt close for this, it closed because it wasnt making money

And Ghost needed to close, the worst show I have ever seen. Still have not gottten over the nightmare of that show. Even saying its name makes me feel dirty, and sadly not in a good way!
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

That hasn't stopped you making all of your posts about it since!

I know GHOST didn't close for this, but it's just a shame when a great show is replaced by something that seems to be pure crap.

Phantom of London, that was mean! But very funny. I'm not sure that this show WILL prove to be critic proof as, once the initial pre-sold booking period runs out, they will need to get new ticketbuyers in there and between these reviews (which are worse than Mamma Mia ever got) and the poor word-of-mouth (friends of mine who went to Press Night raved about the party but barely mentioned the show) am not sure anybody's gonna be reaching for their credit cards. True, We Will Rock You got appalling reviews but the fans LOVE that. This one, not so much. Not at all in fact.......

Piccadilly did well 2005-2010 with Guys and Dolls and Grease.

The Piccadilly has had a good run of shows since Guys and Dolls, it has a good capacity but its not in a good location compared to the ones on Shaftesbury Avenue and the Strand.
