Vital Theatre Company's STINKYKIDS, THE MUSICAL Returns Off-Broadway Today

The award-winning Vital Theatre Company has announced the return of its hit production of STINKYKIDS, THE MUSICAL, which won an Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best Family Show in 2012. With book and lyrics by Sammy Buck and music by Daniel S. Acquisto, the musical is based on the books by Britt Menzies. Michael Schloegl directs.

The production plays Saturdays and Sundays at 1:00 pm, today, September 24th, through November 5th, at the Theater at Blessed Sacrament, 152 West 71st Street, just east of Broadway, and is appropriate for ages 2-7. StinkyKid Britt never gets in trouble and loves making everyone happy! She's convinced her parents to take her friends Max, Hannah, Jen, Johnny, and Billy to the opening of the new MegaJumper 3000. But when Britt gets a massive wad of gum stuck in her hair, she must rely on her friends to help her get out of the sticky situation before her parents find out and cancel the trip! STINKYKIDS, THE MUSICAL is based on the award-winning StinkyKids books and StinkyKids characters: little stinKers who learn to make right choices through their childhood mistakes and live by the motto "Always be a leader of good."

Daniel S. Acquisto (Music) has penned many award-winning musicals with lyricist Sammy Buck: Like You Like It (Playscripts, 2009 NYIT Award: Best Musical); The 7-Year B*tch; Vital Theatre's StinkyKids The Musical (TRW, 2012 Off-Broadway Alliance Award: Best Family Show), The Frog & The Witch and Matthew Takes Mannahatta (book by Aurin Squire); music for Barry The Hatchet, ballet Andy Warhol Was Right (NYMF), and currently working on Ugly. Apart from Sammy, Daniel has written music and lyrics for over fourteen children's musicals for The Kaufman Center; rock musical Antigone (Studio Arena), Jeffry Denman's Dancing In The Dark, ballet Wild About Harry (NYMF), Raw Impressions, A-Train Plays, P.O.W. (an electronic-music oratorio). Non-theatre commissions: Redheads Anonymous web series, Audubon Trail (USAF Clarinet Quartet), Sing No Sad Songs For Me (Shawnee Press), feature-length film Fade To White, as well as other short films. Awards (with Sammy Buck): Dottie Burman Songwriting Award (2012), Talkin' Broadway Summer Festival Citation Best New Musical (2007), Cardiff Global Musicals Search Winner (2006), New Voices Prize (2005), and a Dramatists Guild's Jonathan Larson Fellow (2003). Sammy Buck (Book and Lyrics) has written seven shows with composer Dan Acquisto, most notably Like You Like It (Playscripts, 2009 NYIT Award: Best Musical) and StinkyKids The Musical (Vital, TRW, 2012 Off-Broadway Alliance Award: Best Family Show). With composer Brandon James Gwinn, he is the co-lyricist/bookwriter of Small Town Story (Richard Rodgers Award Finalist, NY Theatre Barn commission, Village Theatre's Festival of New Musicals, NAMT Writers ResidenCy Grant). He also wrote the book of Leonard Bernstein's Cast Party (Roundabout), the horror movie Red Hook (Phase 4 Films), two dance musicals for NYMF and a circus. He's currently working on a new project with composer Jeff Thomson. His songs have been heard in concerts at 54 Below, the Laurie Beechman Theatre, The Duplex, New World Stages, Barrington Stage, Merkin Hall and L.A.'s Rockwell Stage. Michael Schloegl (Director/Choreographer) is one of the founding members of Vital Theatre Company. His original show, Three Bears and A Babe, started the first Vital children's theatre season. He works regionally as a director-choreographer (Footloose, Grease, Bring it On!, All Shook Up, Legally Blonde, Saturday Night Fever). Michael is also a costume designer, playwright, and a children's book author/illustrator. His original writing credits include: It's Up In the Air!, Calling All Toys, The Chrismouse Story and the school musical touring show, History Time Henry. He has performed throughout the U.S. and Europe in shows such as: West Side Story, Oklahoma, The Will Rogers Follies, and A Chorus Line. As a theatre educator, he directs musical theatre shows and master classes for students throughout the New York tristate area and Canada.

The production stars Alexa Lebersfeld, Sarah Beth Odle, Jasmin Malave, Stephen Hohendorf, Cole Smith and Ramon Guzman, and features costume design by Kaitlyn Day and set design by Kyle Dixon. Anessa Marie is the Musical Director and Frances Hughes is the Stage Manager.

Vital Theatre Company is dedicated to producing entertaining and educational theatre for young audiences and commissions three to five musicals for children each season. Since its founding in 1999, Vital Theatre Company has been honored with the 2012 Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Best Family Musical, two Awards for Excellence by the Off-Off Broadway Review, and has received high acclaim from audiences and critics alike for being "a wonderful place for parents to introduce their kids to the glories of Live Theatre, done well and at modest prices" (Off-Off Broadway Review).
