Target Margin Theater's TMT LAB: YIDDISH VERSION Begins Tonight

Target Margin Theater concludes the 2013-14 season and their two-year exploration of Yiddish Theater with the summer 2014 TMT Lab: Yiddish Version curated by TMT Artistic Producer John Del Gaudio. TMT's Lab offers a sampler of works from the canon of Yiddish theater and literature, to remind us all how diverse and sophisticated Yiddish culture was, and how great its loss.

Target Margin Theater has been on a creative arc exploring Yiddish culture with a two-season initiative titled Beyond the Pale. This exploration has included the work of playwrights, poets, novelists, and essayists, including the three great crowns of Yiddish literature - Sholem Aleichem, Y.L. Peretz and Mendele Moykher Sforim. The TMT Lab has the left, the right, the enlightenment, introspectivism, sweatshop poets from the Lower East Side, and modernist writers from Eastern Europe.

All performances will be performed in English beginning TONIGHT, Wednesday, June 4, 2014 for a limited engagement through Saturday, June 14, 2014 at The Secret Theatre in Long Island City (44-02 23rd Street).

John Del Gaudio, curator and TMT Artistic Producer, had this to share about the conclusion of the Lab Series, "This final installment of the TMT Lab includes everything from melodrama to devised work to the man behind Tevye reimagined as a stand-up comic. As of June 15th, we will have presented 23 Yiddish-inspired productions over the past two seasons. We could have easily extended this arc for another two (or more!) seasons, there is such a wealth of material. The beauty is that, we hope, our artists and our audiences are now awakened and can make their own discoveries."

The Secret Theatre is in The Long Island City Arts Center, which is two blocks from MOMA's PS1, two blocks from Silvercup Studios and one block from The Citibank Tower at Court Square. It is close to the 59th St Bridge and also the Mid Town Tunnel [take 21st St exit after toll].
