SWEET STORM At The Alchemy Theatre Extends Again Through 7/26

The Alchemy Theatre, in association with LAByrinth Theater Company, are presenting the critically "Sweet Storm" by Scott Hudson, who was recently awarded the Daryl Roth 2009 Creative Spirit Award, Off Broadway at The Kirk Theatre (Theatre Row), 410 West 42nd Street, NYC. Padraic Lillis directs the new play that features Jamie Dunn and Eric T. Miller. The opening was June 17 and due to critical and popular demand the show was extended an additional week. Now for the final extension the play will be extended until Sunday, July 26th. The Scenic & Costume Designer is Lea Umberger; the Lighting Designer is Sarah Sidman and the Sound Designer is Elizabeth Rhodes. The Casting Director is Judy Bowman Casting and Production Supervisor: La Vie Productions.

In 1960 Florida during a ferociously approaching storm, Ruthie and Bo, two newlyweds, enter their honeymoon suite in the sky, a treehouse which is a romantic gesture from the young groom to his bride. Yet Bo's expectations of living happily ever after in the sky are soon grounded by Ruthie's realization that marriage comes with many unforeseen - and frightening - challenges. The two lovers struggle to fortify themselves against forces both inside and outside. This is a funny, powerful, and intimate love story to challenge our perceptions of marriage, faith, and love. Running time = 75 minutes with no intermission

Scott Hudson has been a LAByrinth Company Member since 2003; joining the cast of Our Lady of 121st Street when it moved off-Broadway. The following seasons he performed in Dutch Heart of Man and The Fairy Tale Project. Other NYC credits include BFE at Playwrights Horizons, The Glory of Living at MCC, Hot Keys at PS 122, and Wild Echinacea at Primary Stages and in Regional: La Jolla Playhouse, George Street, The Caldwell and The Long Wharf. The first ten pages of Sweet Storm originated at LAB's 2004 Summer Intensive Open Project. Scott is once again developing the first ten pages of a new play from last year's Summer Intensive Open Project. Scott is a graduate of FSU and holds a MFA in acting from Rutgers.

Padraic Lillis is a LAByrinth Company Member since 2004. He most recently directed L. Pontius's play Umbrella for The Alchemy Theater. Other credits include: Michael Puzzo's The Dirty Talk (nominated NYIT Outstanding Director), Adina Taubman's documentary play on Columbine, A Line in the Sand, for the Midtown International Theater Festival (Awarded Best Production), dramaturge for Michael Lluberes's The Boy in the Bathroom for the New York Musical Theater Festival (Awarded Most Promising New Musical and Best Book) and his play Two Thirds Home was produced by the Broken Watch Theater and is to be published by Dramatist Play Services, Inc. He is an adjunct professor with the Department of Dramatic Writing at NYU, works with New York Theater Workshop, an alumnus of the Drama League Director's Project.

Alchemy Theatre Company of Manhattan (Robert Saxner, Producing Artistic Director) originally founded in 1996, is one of the newest Off-Broadway companies in New York. Producing new works and revivals, Alchemy's mission is to challenge the perceived truth and values of our time. Alchemy also engages in the development of new plays with staged readings, and future workshop productions. Alchemy is a resident company at Theatre Row. Alchemy productions have included the Off-Broadway premieres of Christopher Durang's The Vietnamization of New Jersey, David Wright Crawford's Harvest, and L. Pontius' Umbrella.
