As part of their festival celebrating Paul Green, and in honor of Black History Month, the ReGroup will present a free reading of Richard Wright's NATIVE SON, as adapted by Paul Green. The reading will take place Sun Feb 2nd at 7 PM at TBG Theatre Mainstage, 312 W 36th St, 3rd Flr. Though tickets are free, reservations are highly recommended. To reserved tickets, please email rsvp@regrouptheatre.org

Original staged by Orson Welles and John Houseman, Richard Wright's groundbreaking tale of Bigger Thomas has become legendary. As a young black man in the Chicago of the '30s, Bigger has no way out of the walls of poverty and racism that surround him, and after he murders a young white woman in a moment of panic, these walls begin to close in. There is no help for him--not from his hapless family; not from liberal do-gooders or from his well-meaning yet naive friend Jan; certainly not from the police, prosecutors, or judges. Bigger is debased, aggressive, dangerous, and a violent criminal. Skillfully adapted for the stage by Paul Green & Wright, it will keep you thinking long after the show is over.

Clark Beasley Jr. leads a cast that also features Sheila Mitchell, Kimberley Shoniker, Sandra Kazan, Ted Morgan, Daniel Hainsworth, Matt Giroveanu, Ave M. Lindon, Richard Crandle, Cedric Benjamin, Frederick Stevens, & Kenya Leach. Tim Gilliss is directing.

The ReGroup is currently in the middle of a hit run of Paul Green's The House of Connelly - which just entended its run at TBG Theatre until Feb 9th. For more information, visit www.regrouptheatre.org
