Naked Angels' 3-Step Formula Tuesdays@9 / 1st Mondays / Angels In Progress KICKS OFF A NEW SEASON THIS MONTH

Naked Angels is committed to strengthening a community of artists through the development and production of provocative new work.

The foundation of Naked Angels' commitment to new work is a unique development program called the 3-Step Formula that provides writers, actors and directors with a menu of opportunities to experiment with their work - from early ideas to completed script. The first step of the Formula is Tuesdays@9, a weekly 'open-submission' environment in which writers and actors gather to bring the first breath of life to brand new material - ten pages at a time. Tuesdays@9 is a community salon (think the "Cheers" bar for theatre-folk), unhindered by the pressure of industry attendance or critique. The second step of the Formula is 1st Mondays, which take place monthly and facilitate the first readings of full-length plays. After 1st Mondays, a play may have the opportunity to receive a weeklong workshop at Angels In Progress, which are scheduled based on selection and availability and culminate in a public presentation.

The month of September brings the first installments of each level of Naked Angels' 3-Step Formula:

1st Mondays - Monday, September 13, 2010 at 3:30 PM
A reading of The Atomic Generation, A New Musical
Book by Josh Halloway, music and lyrics by JC Hopkins, directed by Daniel Kutner
at the D-Lounge - Daryl Roth Theatre in Union Square (101 East 15th Street)

Tuesdays@9 - Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 9:00 PM
at D-Lounge - Daryl Roth Theatre in Union Square (101 East 15th Street)

Angels In Progress - public presentation on Friday, September 24, 2010 at 4:30 PM
The Mnemonist of Dutchess County, a new play by Josh Koenigsberg, directed by Laura Savia
A public presentation will be held on Friday, September 24, 2010 at 4:30pm
at the Ars Nova Penthouse (511 West 54th Street)

The most recent success story of Naked Angels' 3-Step Formula is the Tony-nominated play Next Fall, written by Naked Angels Artistic Director Geoffrey Nauffts. Next Fall began its journey ten pages at a time in Tuesdays@9, was developed through the rest of the 3-Step Formula, and was eventually produced Off-Broadway by Naked Angels in the Summer of 2009 before landing a Tony-nominated (Best Play, Best Director) run on Broadway earlier this year. The production received rave reviews for both its Broadway and Off-Broadway runs.

Celebrated playwright and Naked Angels founding member Kenneth Lonergan also used the 3-Step Formula to develop the plays Lobby Hero and The Starry Messenger, as well as the Oscar-nominated screenplay You Can Count on Me.

Naked Angels' 3-Step Formula represents the core mission of Naked Angels - strengthening a community of artists through the development and production of provocative new work - and is in its 19th year in New York. The program is also bi-coastal, with weekly meetings taking place at St. Mark's Pub in Los Angeles for the past eight years.
