The Advocate has released its list of the top 10 best LGBT-inclusive New York theater of 2014.

Brandon Voss, a contributing editor of The Advocate, has compiled the annual list on Advocate.com since 2009. Unlike other year-end theater lists, The Advocate's strictly celebrates New York theater featuring LGBT characters or themes.

This year's top spot goes to Terrence McNally's Mothers and Sons, which explores the AIDS epidemic's enduring aftermath. Directed by Sheryl Kaller, the drama starred Tyne Daly, Frederick Weller, and Bobby Steggert. It opened March 24 and closed June 22 at Broadway's John Golden Theatre.
