The Irish Repertory Theatre and the cast of "Take Me Along" are stepping up to help children affected by the recent violence in Kenya by doing what they do best. On Sunday, April 6, the proceeds from "Take Me Along," a musical by Robert Merill, Joseph Stein and Robert Russell, based on the book by Eugene O'Neill, will support the urgent needs of children who have been displaced by fighting throughout Kenya.

An estimated two million people have been affected by the situation in recent months, with more than 200,000 forced from their homes. "The support from the Irish Repertory Theatre and the cast will have a huge impact on Concern's assistance for children in Kenya," Siobhan Walsh, Executive Director of Concern Worldwide U.S., said. "The money will go to immediate use."

Concern has worked in the slums of Nairobi for more than five years and quickly responded to the repercussions of violence after the December 2007 elections. Education, access to food and safe drinking water have been major challenges for many of Kenya's youth – a crisis that has only been exacerbated by recent violence. Concern is committed to preventing malnutrition and meeting the most basic needs of families whose lives have been turned upside down.

"On behalf of the cast, crew and staff of the Irish Repertory Theatre, we are honored to support – even in this small way – the colossal and heartfelt work that Concern brings to the world's neediest," Ciaran O'Reilly, Producing Director at the Irish Repertory Theatre, said. Thanks to the help of supporters like the Irish Repertory Theatre and their cast in New York, Concern is able to scale up its emergency response.
