FATHERS & SONS - a new play by Richard Hoehler that offers an original take on the time-honored question, "what makes men tick?" - will be given its world-premiere production Off-Broadway at the Lion Theatre on Theatre Row (410 W. 42 St.) with previews beginning September 15 prior to opening night on September 17, 2009.

A novel exploration of both traditional and non-traditional father-son relationships, FATHERS & SONS is a play-within-a-play: a seasoned actor and his young co-star prepare for their opening night, rehearsing scene after scene depicting such potent and quixotic male relationships as stepfather/stepson, gay mentor and protégé, uncle/nephew, father/son. Both funny and heart-wrenching, FATHERS & SONS comes full circle as it portrays how the dynamics of male relationships - power, control, responsibility, abandonment and love - bring men together and keep them apart.

Richard Hoehler and Edwin Matos, Jr. comprise the cast of FATHERS & SONS, which is directed by Chris Dolman. The play is presented Off-Broadway by Joyce Johnson Deep End Productions and little victor productions.

A writer and actor, Mr. Hoehler has written and performed the solo plays "Working Class," "Human Resources" and "New Jersey/New York." A series regular on the television show "Third Watch," Mr. Hoehler is also an award-winning fiction writer. Edward Matos, Jr. has performed leading roles in productions at the Clemente Soto-Velez Cultural Center downtown. His film credits include "Don't Shoot the Pharmacist" and "Opportunity Mutiny."

Chris Dolman is a member of the Lincoln Center Director's Lab, and recent directing credits include "Life x 3" at Vineyard Playhouse, "True West" and "Doubt." He was founder/producing director of the Edgartown Theatre Company, the professional theatre based on Martha's Vineyard. Producer Joyce Johnson has worked as a dramaturge and produced "Savannah Bay" by Marguerite Duras Off-Off-Broadway and as Johnson Cole Productions, "Omnium Gatherum," which was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize.

FATHERS & SONS has scenic design by Todd Edward Ivins, costume design by Jonathan Knipscher, lighting design by Michael Abrams and musical composition/sound design by Scott O'Brien.

FATHERS & SONS will perform Wednesdays thru Saturday evenings at 8pm and Sunday matinees at 3pm. Tickets are $25, available through Ticket Central online at www.ticketcenteral.com or by calling 212-279-4200.
