Canadian actor and rap artist Baba Brinkman brings his latest acclaimed, award-winning production, The Rap Guide to Evolution, to New York City with four special performances at 45 Bleeker (45 Bleeker Street at Lafayette Street). Performances are Tuesday, May 4 at 4:00 p.m., Thursday May 6 at 4:00 p.m., Friday May 7 at 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 8 at 7:00 p.m. Developed with the support of the British Council, The Rap Guide to Evolution was featured in the summer of 2009 at the Cambridge Darwin Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe, where it won the prestigious Scotsman Fringe First Award for Best New Theatre Writing.

Following the worldwide success of his Rap Canterbury Tales, Baba Brinkman accepted the challenge to "do for Darwin what he did for Chaucer." The Rap Guide to Evolution explores the history and current understanding of Darwin's theory, combining hilarious remixes of popular rap songs with clever lyrical storytelling that covers Natural Selection, Sexual Selection, Evolutionary Psychology, and much more. Brinkman worked directly with Dr. Mark Pallen, author of The Rough Guide to Evolution, to ensure scientific and historical accuracy, making The Rap Guide to Evolution a powerful teaching tool as well as a laugh-out-loud comedy experience, and the first-ever peer-reviewed rap!

Tickets are $22.50 with student tickets for $15.00 and are available on Telecharge.com or by calling 212-239-6200.

Since 2004 Baba has toured his award-winning hip-hop theatre show, The Rap Canterbury Tales, to dozens of cities around the world, including three critically-acclaimed runs at the Edinburgh Fringe. His rap adaptations are now used in hundreds of classrooms around the world. In 2008, Baba joined forces with UK BBC Slam Champion MC Dizraeli to form the hip-hop group Mud Sun, and they co-wrote and released two albums, including "The Rebel Cell," a hip-hop play that was one of the biggest critical successes of the Edinburgh Fringe, winning the "Spirit of the Fringe Award." Baba's latest project, The Rap Guide to Evolution won the prestigious Scotsman Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2009, and went on to tour the UK and USA, celebrating the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin.
