(5/1/2015) - Working closely with New York City based professional playwright Bruce Ward, eight high school student playwrights from across the Commonwealth will bring their original one-act plays to life on the stage at the 26th Annual New Voices for the Theater Festival of New Works, held July 10 & 11, 2015 at Shafer St. Playhouse at Virginia Commonwealth University (221 N. Shafer St). 150 plays were submitted to SPARC - School of the Performing Arts in the Richmond Community this year and eight resident winners and four honorable mentions were chosen.

(5/1/2015) - Janet Langhart Cohen, an Emmy-award nominated journalist and civil rights activist, will bring her timely play, "Anne & Emmett," to the MetroStage theater. Running Thursday, May 7 through Saturday, May 9, the one-act play is an imaginary conversation between Anne Frank and Emmett Till, both victims of racial and religious intolerance and hatred. Acclaimed director Thomas W. Jones II ("The Islands" "Bessie's Blues") will direct the piece, with the belief it will help add to the dialogue around these issues.

(4/23/2015) - Virginia Repertory Theatre announces the opening of Christopher Durang's award-winning Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike at the Sara Belle and Neil November Theatre, 114 West Broad Street on Friday, April 24 with a preview tonight, April 23. The production runs through May 17, 2014. Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike won the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play, an Outer Critics Circle Award, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Play, and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play.
