Terre Jones Receives NOVAForward Award

On June 20, the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce (Fairfax Chamber) awarded Terrence D. Jones, President and CEO of Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, with the prestigious NOVAForward Award. Bestowed yearly upon a Northern Virginia influencer in honor of their commitment to advancing the region, Jones was recognized during a luncheon attended by 700 leaders of the corporate, nonprofit, and political community.

Jones has served as President and CEO of the private, nonprofit Wolf Trap Foundation since 1996, working in partnership with the National Park Service to operate America’s only National Park for the Performing Arts to enhance the cultural life in the region and ensure that the arts remain accessible and affordable to the broadest possible audience.

“Terre has been a leader in advancing issues critical to moving our region forward – things like education, workforce development, sustainability and more,” said Fairfax Chamber President & CEO Jim Corcoran. “He has been a dedicated member of the Chamber’s Board for a number of years, and his leadership in our community is unsurpassed. He is truly a deserving recipient of the NOVAForward Award.”

This award comes in advance of Jones’ pending retirement scheduled for December 31, 2012. Significant accomplishments during his tenure include the annual creation of new artistic works; the expansion of Wolf Trap’s Education programs to include its groundbreaking Early Childhood STEM Learning Through the Arts program in partnership with Fairfax County Public Schools; advancement of Wolf Trap’s nationally renowned college internship program; the development of the first, formal sustainability program for the performing arts industry in partnership with Americans for the Arts and Booz Allen Hamilton; and record-breaking performance seasons, with the Filene Center ranking 3^rd in the world in amphitheatre ticket sales in 2011 according to industry publication Pollstar.

Jones is in the midst of a banner summer season at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, which features 135 diverse performances including the Foundation’s seventh installment of its original, artistic adventure series, Face of America; internationally renowned performers at its Children’s Theatre-in-the-Woods; new Wolf Trap Opera Company productions at The Barns at Wolf Trap; nine evenings with the National Symphony Orchestra, the return of Wilco and Train, and debuts by Matisyahu, The Fresh Beat Band, Josh Ritter, Ben Harper, Alan Jackson, Dead Can Dance, and many more.
