Firehouse Theatre Presents THIS WORLD WE KNOW, Now thru 3/7

Firehouse Theatre presents the world premiere of the winner of the 2013 Festival of New American Plays, This World We Know by award-winning playwright Kelly Younger. Proud participant of Richmond's annual Acts of Faith Festival, This World We Know plays 16 performances, tonight, February 5 - March 7, 2015. Opening Night is Friday, February 6.

Directed by John Tyler Community College theatre professor Kerrigan Sullivan, This World We Know tells the story of estranged siblings Charlotte (Catherine Bryne) and Junior (Scott Melton) entangled in the lives of their younger selves, played by Richmond Theatre Critics Circle (RTCC) Award nominees Grey Garrett (A Civil War Christmas, HAIR) and Charley Raintree (A Streetcar Named Desire, The Wild Party). When they reunite to make decisions about their future, they are surprised to discover the truth of their past. Now, they must choose between nurturing or severing the roots of their family tree.

This World We Know features costume design by Margarette Joyner, scenic design by Edwin Slipek, sound design by Joe Carragher, and light design by RTCC Award nominee Andrew Bonniwell. Saturday, February 7th audiences will have the chance to meet playwright Kelly Younger at a post-show talkback following the 8pm performance. The talkback is free with ticket purchase.

Kelly Younger is an award-winning playwright with work staged off-Broadway, regionally, and internationally. New York's Irish Repertory Theatre commissioned Younger to write the stage adaptation of the novel Banished Children of Eve by Peter Quinn, the production of which ran off-Broadway Fall 2010. He is also author of In the Fold (Finalist for the Joanne Woodward/Paul Newman Drama Award), and the full-length drama Tender (nominated for Best New Play IRNE, Finalist for the Laurents/Hatcher Award, and selected of Manhattan Theatre Club's 2011 "7@7" reading series directed by Lynne Meadow). His latest full-length play, Kalamazoo, co-written by Michelle Kohlos Brooks, won the Riva Shriver Comedy Award and premiered at Bloomington Playwrights Theatre and Pacific Resident Theatre last fall.

Younger is currently a Professor of English at Loyola Marymount University where he leads workshops in Playwriting and teaches courses in Dramatic Literature.
