THE WAY OFF BROADWAY DINNER THEATRE ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS

FOR ITS 2014 PLATINUM ANNIVERSARY SEASON-OPENER, THE SOUND OF MUSIC

The 2014 Season marks a milestone for The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre. It will be the theatre’s 20thAnniversary Season. Since 1995, Way Off Broadway has been a leader in the region’s performing arts community and the 2014 Season will be a celebration of all the productions that have played the Frederick theatre.

Opening the season will be Rodgers & Hammerstein’s beloved classic The Sound of Music. Auditions for the production have been set for Sunday, November 10th and Sunday, November 17th.

Those auditioning are asked to bring a headshot and resume, as well as 16 bars of prepared music for the show and be ready to sing and read from the script. All roles are open and non-union paying. No appointments are necessary and an accompanist will be provided.

Auditions have been broken up into two separate days. Those for child performers auditioning for the roles of the von Trapp children will be held on Sunday, November 10th beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the theatre. Auditions for all of the adult roles will be held on Sunday, November 17th beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the theatre. Specific casting details, as well as rehearsal and performance information can be found on Way Off Broadway’s website, www.wayoffbroadway.com.

Rodgers & Hammerstein’s final collaboration was destined to become a classic. When a postulant proves too high-spirited for the religious life, she is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain, and they marry. Upon returning from their honeymoon they discover that Austria has been invaded by the Nazis, who demand the Captain's immediate service in their navy. The family's narrow escape over the mountains to Switzerland provides one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales ever presented in the theatre.

The Sound of Music has music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein, and a book by Hammerstein and Russel Crouse. Way Off Broadway’s production will run from January 17 – March 15, 2014 and will be directed by Samn Huffer, with music direction by Jordan B. Stocksdale.
