Equity Principal Audition:

Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the Actors' Equity Audition Center

9:30 AM — 5:30 PM 165 West 46th Street, 2nd Floor

Lunch from 1 - 2. New York, NY

Prepare EITHER: 1) A brief monologue under 2 minutes in length, OR 2) A brief song OR 3) a 1 minute monologue & 16 bars of a song.
If singing, bring sheet music in correct key; accompanist provided but may not transpose.

Bring picture and resume, stapled together.

MEN’S LIVES

Walt:

60-65. Hardworking fisherman, fifty or more. The father of Lee and William. Even-tempered and morally strong.

Alice:

Walt’s wife, same age, mother of Lee and William. Uneducated but idealistic, self-respecting and highly principled.

Lee:

Thirty or thereabouts. Hurt and hurting, tender and angry. Takes after his parents in moral sensitivity, but is also self-lacerating and sarcastic. Throws barbs at people, then smothers his victims with tenderness, yet anyone who knows him thoroughly, loves him helplessly.

Popeye:

Same age as Lee. A side-kick of Lee’s who is not of their blood or their neighborhood. Tries to be a good fisherman. Worships and respects Lee and his family.

William:

The youngest son, 25-30 years old, bright, smiles easily. Intelligent, inventive, adventurous and fun-loving, yet his profound respect for the fighting traditions of his forbears makes him a stubborn fighter.

Peter:

40-50 years old, a ringmaster of sorts, who brings the drama to life. He evokes characters, a world and its problems. He is a friend to these people, one who has known them intimately. His privilege of seeing them from a chronicler’s distance, something that irritates Lee. A poet and a fisherman. Peter loves the sea and the written word. Because of this, he is their witness and their hope.

Nate Spencer:

10-14 years old, young cousin to William and Lee.

1 Male Actor:

To play the following three characters Age 35-65:

Chuck: A sports fisherman

Congressman

Courtney: Representative of the anglers in Albany
