STEEL MAGNOLIAS - Des Moines Community Playhouse

Auditions for the heartwarming play Steel Magnolias will be held at the Des Moines Community Playhouse at 6:30 PM on Monday, Dec. 5, 2016. All auditions are open to the public; no one is pre-cast. Questions about auditions should be directed to Robin Spahr,
515-974-5365.

Steel Magnolias contains feature roles for 6 women, ages 16 and up. Performances are June 2-18, 2017. Where race, ethnicity, gender, age, or other personal differentiations are not specified by the script, the Playhouse casts plays without regard to these attributes, and actively encourages participation by all members of the community. Steel Magnolias is directed by John Viars.

Steel Magnolias is the story of six unlikely friends: the outspoken, wise-cracking Truvy who dispenses shampoos and free advice to the town's rich curmudgeon, Ouiser; Truvy's eager new assistant, Annelle, who is not sure whether or not she is still married; an eccentric millionaire, Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M'Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby is about to marry a good ole boy. Their conversations in Truvy's beauty salon bring hilarity, until tragedy strikes and brings them face-to-face with their mortality.

The Playhouse is one of the oldest and largest community theatres in the US. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
