Verismo Opera Chorus Auditions to February 5

The New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera has rescheduled the last date to audition for the Verismo Opera Chorus to February 5, 2014. Due to inclement weather conditions, the auditions scheduled for January 22 were cancelled.

Auditions for the chorus will begin at 6:30 p.m. and be held at 44 Armory Street in Englewood, New Jersey. An audition appointment is required and must be made in advance.

Lucine Amara, Artistic Director of the New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera, invites vocalists who like to sing and want to perform on the stage in a professional production to audition for the Verismo Opera Chorus. Professional, amateur, and retired professional vocalists may apply.

An accompanist will be provided. The building is handicapped accessible and designated handicapped parking is available in the lot.

Altos and male choristers, representing all vocal ranges and ages, are especially needed. Applicants should have a rudimentary working ability to read music and experience singing. An application may be downloaded at
http://www.verismopera.org/chorus.html. For information or to schedule an appointment to audition for the chorus, call
(201) 886-0561.

During the company’s 25th anniversary season, Vive la France, choristers will perform in the company’s spring production of Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata on Sunday, April 6, 2014 and La Bohème on Sunday, October 19 and 26, 2014. Both operas will be presented at 3 p.m. at the Bergen Performing Arts Center (bergenPAC) in Englewood, New Jersey.

Under Chorus Director Mara Waldman, vocalists will sing in Italian and explore grand opera through active performances. The operas will be fully staged and performed in costume accompanied by an orchestra under internationally renowned Principal Conductor/Music Director Anthony Morss.

Funding

The 2014 season is made possible, in part, with funds provided by the New Jersey Council on the Arts/Department of State, through grand funds administered by the Bergen County Department of Parks, Division of Cultural and Historic Affairs. Other supporters include the Mary Casella Briggs Memorial Fund, The Gerda Lissner Foundation, Inc., Vanguard Charitable Endowment Fund, Children’s Aid Foundation, Paul Weiss Matching Fund, Robert J.
