IMAGINING O - Kasser Theater, Montclair State University

About the Show
Imagining O is a devised ensemble performance piece combining Shakespeare’s Hamlet and other plays, Pauline Reage’s The Story of O (in French and English), and contributions from the ensemble. Imagining O investigates abjection and triumph, sexuality and artistry, poetry and torture, dance, visual and installation art, and theatre—as imagined by Ophelia, Reage's heroine, O, and the ensemble.

This East Coast Artist production is co-directed by Richard Schechner and Benjamin Mosse, movement by Roanna Mitchell, environments by Chris Muller, costumes by Oana Botez, and films by Matt Bockelman.

Performance Dates
The action takes place throughout and around the Alexander Kasser Theater at Montclair State University, New Jersey. Imagining O will open the Peak Performances season on September 12, 13, and 14. Rehearsals begin August 4 for 4–6 hours daily, Mondays through Fridays. Rehearsals will begin with a training workshop, improvisational sourcing of new materials, movement training, and filming.

Auditions for Imagining O will be held May 22 and 23 in the Performance Studies Studio at NYU Tisch, 721 Broadway, 6th Floor.

We are seeking women only, all ages and body types. If auditioning, please take into consideration that there will be a great deal of dance and physical work with partial to total nakedness. Auditioners are recommended to read Reage's The Story of O prior to auditioning. The development of Imagining O includes the creation of specific movement vocabulary and dance. This does not mean that you have to be a dancer, but do consider movement in your choices for audition pieces, where we will be looking for what particular physical language you, as an individual, have to offer.

Please prepare:
-1 song
-1 dance
-1 personal story
Nothing longer than 2 minutes.
